The source of my bad cravings...gluten

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

I am PO'd at the government for telling me that healthy was 5 to 6 servings of grain per day my entire life.

I've discovered that I have a gluten intolerance. Not big enough for me to to notice but after 74 days of no grains I ate a whole wheat pita and it bloated me up and made me want to sleep so bad I was falling asleep in the car.

I have no cravings for bad foods eating Primal, which is a gluten free diet.
Nothing tempts me, not pizza, cakes, cookies, nothing. I just do not want those foods. Two days after eating the pita I'm standing in line at the store eyeballing the candy bars!

I have discovered without gluten in my diet I have no trouble avoiding high fat and sugary foods. I always thought that sugar was the culprit when it came to my cravings but its gluten. I am very excited to discover this.

This is one of the oddest weight losses I have been through. I am not dropping pounds on the scale. Well I have dropped down 11 pounds but my body shape is changing, clothes fitting way differently. I have not added any exercise yet. I will start walking again but right now I'm just focusing on my eating.

My portions have just shrunk down to normal ones. I don't over eat because I'm not hungry. I get full and I'm done. This is not an effort like low fat low calorie eating is.

I would recommend trying a gluten free diet to anyone who has failed repeatedly at a low fat low calorie diet, its amazing how much easier it is! No willpower needed, it just works!

That is a great insight and amazing discovery. You definitely proved it to yourself and now can go back to controlling things in the way that you need to.

I'm a picky vegetarian so that would be super hard for me but I think you are doing fantastic! Cravings are diet killers and with more gluten friendly options out there than ever you are in good company! Keep it up!

I have often thought the same thing about myself, having a gluten intolerance, but I can't afford the lifestyle of eating without it. It's great to hear that you've nailed it, and that you know what makes you feel good!
