Remember Last December 31st? - Tales From 100 # Down

Monday, October 21, 2013

Dec. 31st is that day when one year closes and a new year of opportunity stretches out before us. We often enter the year with a list of "resolutions" or "goals". For many people on this website that includes fitness, nutrition and weight loss goals.

For some the food fest that begins at Halloween and marches through Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year's leaves us with a few extra pounds that cause us to put that weight loss goal back on the front burner come January 1.

No matter where you are on your journey you have TEN weeks to yet make progress! Ten weeks is a LOT of time. You can build a new habit in that timeframe. I can think of some that would be worthy of effort:

1) giving up/reducing soda pop
2) getting regular cardio
3) doing weekly strength training
4) increasing water consumption
5) beginning a 5K training program
6) cooking more healthy meals at home

My point here is that IT'S NOT TOO LATE! Why WAIT! What a GIFT you can give yourself by making progress NOW! Even if you only lose 3 pounds between now and Jan. 1 it's three pounds LOST and no pounds GAINED!

Build your momentum now and come January you don't have to make a NEW resolution you just keep PRESSING ON into 2014!

TEN WEEKS... Think of the possibilities! Think of what YOU can achieve! You won't know if you don't start!

I'll be right here on New Year's Eve to celebrate what I HAVE done and look forward to what I WILL do. Want to join me?

This time of year, I usually sort of fizzle, planning to start again in January. But you have lit a fire under me...or a spark...Let's go for it!

I think I heard a statistic that the average person gains 11 pounds between Halloween and New Years Day. We can turn that statistic around.

Most people watch what they eat from Christmas to New Year's when we should be watching what we eat from New Year's to Christmas...

I so agree, we can accomplish a lot in ten weeks. Count me in. No reason to wait, the sooner we start the further ahead we will be.

Thanks,

    Pink,

First off I want to say, what a beautiful picture you have on your sparkpage! Second, this is very sound advice that you've given us, as food for thought. I know that I don't need to think about the fact, that I'm striving DAILY to do better than I did the day before. As I was looking at your items that would be worth the effort to look at, I mentally told myself what I had done, and whispered each answer out loud. IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO START!!! That's all a person has to do, is just take that one step, and as you grow, so will your steps, or whatever challenge you've given yourself. If anybody does their best, nobody can ask anything else of them, as they're giving all they have to give, RIGHT NOW!!!

Be blessed,

- Nancy Jean -

I think a lot of us (as women and caregivers) are used to putting ourselves last during this time. That includes giving our loved ones the special food, the treats, the family favorites that are tied up in all these celebrations!

And of course, we eat them too and gain weight.

The challenge is to put ourselves FIRST for a change! Most of our families would benefit from new, healthier traditions where the treats are in moderation.

Great blog, and you KNOW I am with you! 10 weeks is a huge amount of time and is NOT to be wasted!

Well Said Suzanne....You can definitely count me in!!! Just think...in ten weeks I could lose 20 pounds and be under 250. I haven't seen 250 in 12 years. I thank you for pointing out ten weeks. Gives me more of a goal to end this year with a bang....... emoticon emoticon PRESS ON!!!

I am going to meet new years eve, my most dreaded day usually as it is in my birthday and I see all the goals that I FAILED yet again. Same this year, but am looking at a much better picture, even though my health has gotten worse, a fibro diagnosis and more osteoarthritis, I am telling myself that even though I gained wt after losing 30, I am still ahead of the game, and since I started tracking and eating well again and not waiting till after halloween etc, I will do my best till then.
This birthday I CHOOSE to look at the positives, and the GAINS I have made along the way to reaching my goals.
