New Start Page, new start?

Monday, October 21, 2013

SparkPeople changed up their Start page Again. I did not like the last change, but got used to it.

This change was dramatic, but I think I enjoy it. If you haven't taken the tour, check out the official blog from the Spark Blogs: www.sparkpeople.com/blog

This one makes it easier for me to remember the things I need to do.

In Step 1, you get to log in all your stuff, your food, your exercise, your sleep, your water all those important things you should be doing, so it's prominent.

There is a floating bar that tells you how many spark points you've had for the day.

Step 2 is where you can find articles to inspire you or allow you to learn something and a goal board. They put a "coach's corner" where you can find the articles that will help you along. You can create a goal board that is like a slide show of the things you want to do, you have done, you will do to get to your goals and pictures that inspire you to finish your goals. For example, one of my long term goals are to be strong enough to live independently into old age, one of the pictures Spark had was one with a weight that says "Be Strong".

Step 3 is where you'll find the greater community. This is where the log in wheel is, your groups and where you can find the link to get to your Spark Page. Did you notice that you got points you can share with your groups? When you give those points to your groups (under the SparkAmerica Team Bonus Points tab), you get Spark points back. At the bottom of this step you see your streaks, your total points and your newest trophy.

Scroll down farther and you'll see more articles you can browse and other things you can do today on the site. This is where you see the recipe of the day, video of the day and all the rest of the stuff they though needed to be shown on the start page, but aren't things that are necessary to your day.

So far I'm enjoying it. I set up my goal board already, actually tracked my food for the day and reset my weight goal (again!) so that I can get this off in a reasonable time. I am giving myself a lot more time for the end result than I did the beginning, but I think that going slower and actually doing things to make myself stronger instead of focusing on loss of pounds will get me to my real goal of being strong enough to take care of myself until my mind goes.

Today's Holidays: Reptile Awareness Day, Count Your Buttons Day, Babbling Day, Garbanzo Bean Day, National Apple Day and National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day.

I dislike change because it's time consuming, a commodity I have very little of.

So thank you for this blog :-)

I like the new page. I did, however, find something wrong. I HAVE reported it so they are aware and should be fixing it. The problem is that the slide counters up at the top for the water and veggies, etc aren't being counted for streaks. I had streaks for both of those and they were all filled in, my both streaks quit on Monday, when the new page went in. Coach Jen turned in the problem. So, if you're working on a streak, just keep marking them and it should get fixed.

I am trying to get use to it, but think I will really like it when all is said and done.

After having to search for the login spin I had a look around and set up a few things. I like it! One thing I wish they could include on the start page are the various challenges I've signed up for. For example I signed up for the Countdown to Skinny Jeans Challenge yesterday and it would be great if my Start Page noted that challenge and that I finished the first day!

I don't mind the new start page. I didn't use the old start page that much, and I won't use the new one very much. The important thing is, all the parts of the site I use a lot aren't changing. The few things I do use on the start page are easy enough to find on the new version. No damage done, so it's a good upgrade.

I am still finding my way around, and quite frankly will never probabely figure out all the things. I just don't get new things that well at first, somethings never--so will see how much I will be learning to do. Glad you have taken to the new spark page and that it is working great for you.
