Well, the meeting came and went. I really wasn't surprised when The Rat didn't show up. But I was surprised - and highly disappointed - that the other Block Captain didn't show up. We had several new people show up and it was a good meeting nonetheless.
After everyone left, I had a knot in the pit of my stomach. I went outside and walked around in the sunshine, trying to collect my thoughts. All kinds of things went through my head. Emotions can play havoc and I am determined to not let this send me into a tailspin.
When I was a kid and stuff like this happened to me, my dad would say "Count your blessings."
So, I took a deep breath. Exhaled . . . and began to do just that.
As I began to take my next step, I looked down at the ground and saw a rock shaped like a heart. When I bent down to pick it up, I saw another heart rock. Okay, that's a coincidence. Then there was another one. And another one. Within 10 feet, I had picked up 10 very nice heart rocks!
By this time, I was smiling ear to ear. . . . almost giggling. "Thanks, Dad!"
(For years, I've collected rocks that are shaped like hearts. I've found more heart rocks on our 5 acres than I have anywhere else . . . . so much so that we call our little spot of heaven in the woods "Heart Rock Acres".)
