A victory at the snack stop!

Monday, October 21, 2013

My husband wanted an Orange Julius as we broke from our afternoon walk before heading back home. The stop was a bit more than a mile away. His craving took us into the small food court. He got his fix and I ordered something called a light pomegranate smoothie. I discovered that basically meant a sugary juice flavored beverage blended with ice. I needed to hydrate so I started sipping. It tasted so sweet that I only had a little before discarding the rest. In the past I would have made myself drink it all because of the $5.00 it cost at the counter. At least, we opted to walk back home....sometimes we get on the light rail for a few blocks of rest before heading up our hill. It was such a beautiful day. I think I walked off the calories, but know I did't burn any extra. Next time I'll insist on a drinking fountain. I prefer that anyway! Have a great week everyone.

Good for you ! Another option would be to ask dear husband to request a plain water in a cup with his treat. Then he could give the water to you. emoticon

I love how my tastes have changed. It is so nice to be free of more and more unhealthy treats.

Sounds good and tasted great but who needs the extra sugar. You made the right choice.

It isn't a great feeling when you pick the right thing or know when you have not chosen the best but only take a small portion. I am so proud of you for doing that. I have a hard thing throwing away anything.

I did the same this morning because we went to Denny's and I love the fitfare veggie skillet but it is 660 calories and a lot of food. I only ate half. I didn't bring the rest home only because it never tastes the same reheated.

Great job!

I think society has created obligatory thoughts &associated them with status such as over spending on things we can do better & cheaper at home like overpriced salads, drinks & meals. I am glad you have no problem saying no next time. A protein smoothie made at home the way you like it at half the calories will be so much better or even an actual meal? I was with my sister shopping & ate a bag of mini cucumbers to hold me over for a real homemade meal & it was soooo yummy and worth the wait. She did not get why I wanted to eat at home & so many people don't. How about it is better for me, tastes better & you save money?

Better to waist not than to waste not! This is HUGE progress, to not use your body like a trash can. I am filled with admiration and pride for you. Maybe the memory of that $5 will keep you from ordering another sugary drink in the future. If so, it was money well spent!
