I spent this weekend in Cincinnati with family and friends to watch them do the Half Marathon and run the 5K. I have had trouble breathing (I actually stop and hold my breath) when I exercise because it hurts too much. I finally went and got an inhaler and was diagnosed with exercise induced asthma.
I used it to train a couple times and felt better. The day before the race, I took my brothers dog for a 2 mile walk/run and PR'd (personal record) on my second mile. On race day, I knew I had it in me, so I went for it. I still am very slow, but my best time was 49 minutes. I decided to try for 47.5. My brother asked me what I was planning to do and I told him. He said "so, under 47, that's great!). I went out feeling good and couldn't believe when each mile was way under 15 minutes!
I ended the race with a 43:14 and couldn't believe it! I was shocked.
I then spent the next 90 minutes in a downpour waiting on everyone. I saw them at their 4.5 mile point and told them my news and helped them pick up their feet for awhile with my good news.
I still can't believe it! I'm excited to see what my training brings me for the next few races I have coming up, and then they convinced me to join them for St. Patty's Day in Virginia Beach and to move up to the 8K, so I'm in and I can't wait!!
