my last blog was about how my good friend Lydia has helped me get back on track with my exercise. So here's a recap of 'the power of good friends':
Monday morning I did the elliptical at home. Not much, but it was something. I talked with Lydia and decided to join her at her evening workout. We started with a short warm up run. The first group of exercise stations included crunches on a vertical knee raise dip station, pushing a weighted heavy bag from one end of the room to the other (with push ups in between), overhead tricep exercise with a weight plate on a chain, and burpees (UGH - I hate burpees!). 3 minutes at each station, then outside to jump rope 250 times.
The next set of exercises included a heavy rope looped through a weight plate, with the rope stretched from one end of the room to the other. We had to hold an end of the rope in each hand, and undulate both pieces of rope (it gets tough REALLY quick!) Then there was tricep extension exercise, crunches with a weighted bar, and an oblique exercise with a dumbbell. 3 minutes at each, then back outside for some more jump rope. WHEW.
And I liked it so much, I paid up front for another 9 sessions.
Tuesday morning I did the elliptical at home and some bicep exercises on the Bow Flex, with my resistance bands and Body Bar. I had a church meeting that night, so I did Pilates at the office after work. I was going to do one of the videos from Spark, but it wouldn't play on my work computer. YouTube is blocked too. I know my Pilates routine pretty well. Even without the DVD or book that I use at home, I can remember enough to get a good workout.
Wednesday morning was Pilates at home and spin class after work.
Thursday morning was Pilates again (trying really hard to stretch out those sore muscles from Monday night). I wanted to go to the 4:30 spin class, but my conference call ran over. I was pretty tired and sore, I'd done well with exercise all week, so I gave myself permission to take the night off. I sent a text to the gal who does my hair to see if she was working. She's crazy about Tinkerbell and I found a jack-o-lantern with a Tinkerbell cut out. She was working, so I took it to her.
Friday I had committed to the evening boot camp style workout, but I was up early enough to make it to Tabata at the Y. It's my favorite class, so what the heck? 6am Tabata and evening boot camp - what could possibly go wrong?
Tabata is always a full body workout. The strength exercises we do between Tabata rounds hit every muscle group.
The boot camp class that night included LOTS of shoulders (that's probably my weakest muscle group). We started with our run. The first 4 stations were an overhead press with a barbell, holding a weight plate like a steering wheel and 'driving', wide and narrow push ups, and picking up a 40 lb bag from the floor on the left side, lifting overhead and down to the floor on the right side. 3 minutes of each, then outside for cardio (side shuffle run, 10 burpees, side shuffle run, 10 burpees, repeat, repeat, repeat). The next round of strength exercise was bench presses and leg raises (for abs), pushing a boxing dummy from one end of the room to the other then 10 kicks to the bag on each leg, Russian twists with a kettle bell, and more push ups (each activity for 3 minutes). Then outside for some running. Back inside for a few more push ups and 250 jumping jacks.
OMG - I was in such a daze. I don't know how I got home. I did sleep REALLY well Friday night!
I had planned to run a 5k Saturday morning (riiiiight). Fortunately my sis and her son had to cancel because my nephew had an orchestra audition. I was never so glad to miss a race in my life! I did go to the park late in the day on Saturday for 5.1 miles of walking/running.

Sunday I did some Pilates at home. I was going to go for a bike ride after church, but I opted for a nap instead. I think I earned it, and it sure felt good to snuggle up with the dogs and snooze!
