Winter, already?

Sunday, October 20, 2013

I can already sense the shortening of the days and on days like today, where it's cloudy and moist, it's even harder. It started to snow today, so I tried to get out early enough to miss the worst of the snow, but fortunately I'm south enough of the storm to only have gotten a few flurries that melted when it hit the ground.

This darkness also throws off when I want to eat. I want dinner much earlier than normal and have been munching like crazy. Fortunately I picked up plenty of fruit and am aiming at that more than anything else I could have had.

I was tempted to pick up Halloween candy today, but decided to wait until next week to get that to hand out to the kids that come to my door. With a secure entry, I have few kids that show up, I'll probably just get one big bag to hand out. I like that my kids can just run the hallways without having to worry about getting them in big coats that hide their costume anyhow. I'll bet it snows again on Halloween, hopefully not the 2 feet we got one year.

We will go to the local grocery store next weekend in costume too, they have a fun little thing for the kids each year. One other grocery store does something too, but it's a forced donation to play the games, which was not what it said in the newspaper the one time we tried to do it. Not as fun.

The holiday overeating time is coming upon us. I'm seeing free recipes everywhere for fudge, cookies and candies. I've already done fudge once this season and have the ingredients on hand for other treats. I'm almost tempted to start working on cookies for a cookie exchange one of my friends does every year, almost...

Today's Holidays: Information Overload Awareness Day, National Day on Writing, Miss America Rose Day and National Brandied Fruit Day.

If I buy Halloween candy early, I have to hide it so I don't eat it before Halloween! Better to wait until the last minute so I am not tempted. I am very easily tempted, and once tempted, I eat! Yes, I could buy something that I don't like, but when it comes to candy, there isn't any. (Still looking for brussel sprout candy!) emoticon

The mornings and evenings are quite dark here now and it's getting to the point where I only get out in daylight at the weekend. It's also turned grey, wet & miserable. That damp Autumnal smell is everywhere at the moment.

I got the treats this weekend forHalloween. Not tempted at the moment. We live in a rural village so we get quite a few kids round. Some are pleasant, some just make a grab for the bowl without a shred of politeness!

National Brandied Fruit Day eh - my sort of fruit - fruit salad soaked in Brandy rather than lemon juice!! emoticon

Planning ahead is important for dealing from Halloween through New Years in my view, it can be horrific if one isn't careful! I don't think we'll be in snow territory down here until Christmas likely but its my first year here so we'll see how it goes since its an event when it snows here~ emoticon emoticon emoticon

Oct. Nov. Dec. can be really dangerous months for weigh ins. I will have to walk tomorrow. Reading about all the treats may have made my weight go up. okay, not really.

I enjoyed this blog entry! Your description reminded me of when I lived in NE Ohio and how every so often we would get October snow as you described.
