Random victory of the day...

Sunday, October 20, 2013

It's been a while since I've written a blog so this is a good time to update the world on my progress a little bit. I've been maintaining my weight pretty easily for a while now. In a perfect world, I'd still love to lose a little more, but I'm at a healthy weight, feeling pretty good, and am easily maintaining. This summer was a little bit harder because with the extreme heat here, it is hard to get out to exercise as much. However, now that the fall, I'm back in business!

In a few weeks I'll finally be checking off a big one for my bucket list...my first half marathon. My training has been going really well and I'm pleased with how I am improving and (knock on wood) have remained uninjured. I definitely credit the weight loss to my joints not hurting!

Anyways, today I did my 2nd 8 mile run. I finished it 5 minutes faster than last week, was able to stay at about a 9 minute mile, and I felt great basically the whole way through. But the best part of this run was the big confidence boost I got from it. During miles 2 and 3 I saw other runners on the path ahead of me and easily passed them by. I'm not used to being the passer so this made me feel pretty awesome!

BUT THEN.....at mile 5 I saw a lady on her horse trotting down the path. I just knew I had to catch them! With a little extra effort, I picked up my pace a bit, caught up to them, and passed on by. I mean sure, the horse was just out for a leisurely morning trot, but in my head I it was the Kentucky Derby. Better luck next time horse!

The last 3 miles I trotted on home feeling pretty darn good about myself.

That's the spirit!
I loved to read your update!
What are exercise do you usually do? Running only, or some others, too?
How do you train for your half marathon? You could share in a blog post, too, I'm interested!

That's great!!! Trust me, if you finish the 1/2 marathon, that is a victory unto itself. The time is secondary. I did a half marathon last month. I walked most of the way and took almost 4 hours to complete. I was among the last to finish, but it really doesn't matter. That said, I am probably doing another one in March and want to run more and finish much better.

emoticon that you can maintain a 9 minute mile or even close to it. That's one of my goals to someday get down to between 8-9 min/mi.
