Clean Eating -- getting ready

Sunday, October 20, 2013

I went shopping, and didn't spend as much as I thought. In fact, it didn't cost me any more (or less) than what I would have normally spent.

I have my first few days menu planned out - but it still needs some tweaking. There are not enough calories, but there is a lot of food.

Breakfast -
Egg sandwich on whole wheat toast (ham, egg, cheese)

3oz of round steak

3oz chicken
mixed veggies
sweet potato

apple w/ string cheese
greek yogurt w/ mixed berries

Actually, when I break it down, there isn't anything special there. That is pretty much what I would normally eat. Now, there is some debate about ham... for now, I am going to keep this one. I like it, and I am currently looking for a brand without added sugar. Boars Head looks like a good choice.

I went through my house and got rid of the majority of processed foods that I will not be eating. I left anything he would eat as he thinks I am daft and will not willingly participate in my clean eating venture. I packed his lunch last night for work today with the following...

1 little debbie fancy cake
1 single serve bag of chips
1 pack of chips a hoy
peanut butter m&ms, peppermint patties and kit kats.

Basically it is the lunch we all wanted in second grade. For dinner he has requested my special Mac and Cheese. Back in my "fat days" this was a staple. Basically it is mac and cheese made with whole milk and velveeta cheese, topped with ritz crackers and butter. Not healthy at all, but rather tasty.

I will also be making chili which will be clean. He will eat it with no problems or issues. I would really like him to get on board, but he doesn't want to, so I won't make him.

I have also sat and evaluated what is considered clean and what is not. I am on board with just about everything but wine. I will still be enjoying my wine. I am willing to give up just about everything but the wine.

I have also decided that I am going to stop buying boneless, skinless chicken breasts, and start buying bone in split breasts. It is cheaper, and generally, I don't think they are "enhanced" with some weird solution. I think I may also buy some chicken thighs as well.

Anyway, I suppose I should get to work.

Have a super Sunday everyone!
