Today we went to a nursery to pick out pumpkins and attend their Fall Festival. We had never been there before, but we were planning on going to a pumpkin patch today and I found this place online that looked like it would be fun. We loved it!!! They had hay rides which my daughter was just absolutely thrilled about, and she got to paint a little sugar pumpkin. We picked out some huge pumpkins for carving and had frozen apple cider. That was delicious. Anyway, they also have a really nice farmer's market there at the nursery and I have been trying to find a nice one that is close to us. Finally, I did! We didn't get much in the way of produce today (just some apples and a watermelon) as we were stopping at the mall afterward and it was really hot out. Does produce have issues in a really hot car for a few hours? I would think leafy greens and such might, but things like tomatoes or cucumbers and fruit...we had never thought about it so we figured we wouldn't take the chance. Instead, we bought no sugar added fig jam, no sugar added blackberry jam, wildflower honey, pumpkin butter, honey sticks (my daughter wanted those), and some strawberry cider that my husband picked out. The fig jam is divine and I literally cannot wait to eat tomorrow because I'm going to have some pumpkin butter on some whole grain toast. What else is good to use pumpkin butter with? I assume in oatmeal, or with apple slices, maybe? I'll have to look that one up. I've never actually had pumpkin butter before, but I'm stoked to eat it tomorrow. It better live up to my expectations! But gosh, this place was great and they even had a little "sweet shop" area where you could buy candies and cakes. Yeah, it was extremely difficult to refrain from that one! I'm the kid who could live off of frosting if you'd let me. I can't wait to go back there though and take some more time to look around. My daughter doesn't do well in the heat and she had been outside long enough that it was starting to take it's toll.
So we went to the mall afterward and there is a Super Target there. I picked up some low fat cottage cheese, light string cheese, soup, and whole grain tortillas and turkey (so I can make wraps!) that way I have some more stuff around here to eat. It was hard when we got back for me to not dive in and eat all of the yummy food!
I resisted much temptation today. I allowed myself the frozen apple cider (we all shared one) but I said no to the giant cupcake. And I even did a whole 10 minutes of exercise when I got home. In my defense, the only time I even sat down today (aside from the car ride) was to eat my meals as I did a lot of cleaning and laundry. I realized just how out of shape I am. I haven't exercised at all since they increased my meds in July (?) because it just killed every ounce of energy I had. I have been feeling more energetic this past month or so, but only in the mornings so it has been difficult to get the energy to exercise once I'm home from work. I'm trying to take it 10 minutes at a time to slowly build up. Right now, 10 minutes is plenty!
Anyway, my family and I had such a great day and I am so thankful for that. It was great to hear my daughter repeatedly tell me that today has been wonderful. Makes me so happy!
