Frustrated

Saturday, October 19, 2013

i have appreciated the prayers and concerns that so many of you have expressed on my blogs over the past several months, especially as they relate to our youngest daughter, Olivia. Her older sister did not have all the drama that she has endured in her first year of middle school. last night she went to a "friend's" house to spend the night and at 9:30 p.m. we got a call to come pick her up. It seems that the parents had left the girls alone and there was some bullying going on in their absence.

We have tried to encourage Olivia to seek some new friends, but in a small town like this, it is such a challenge. She doesn't do well with being a loner, but she was angry last night when i picked her up, and very tired of the stupid games that one of her friends was playing.

my biggest frustration is with her parents who left four girls home alone to do whatever it is they (the parents) wanted to do. it's just an unhealthy situation. the step-dad is somewhat of a jerk, but i try my best to be civil.

Thanks for listening to my rant. Olivia is trying to get a sense of normalcy back after such a painful evening.

Olivia deserves better than friends whose parents would leave 4 underage girls by themselves. I thought children had to be a certain age before parents could do that. Maybe I'm wrong, but, I don't believe parents should leave their children unsupervised, especially now days when there's so much craziness going on in the world. My heart goes out to Olivia. At least she has parents that she can depend upon to be there for her when she needs them. All children should be that lucky.

Thinking of you and your family. I can't believe the parents would leave the girls alone!
I am so glad your daughter called you. Middle school is tough.

Prayers,
Lee Ann

Thank God your relationship is such that she called you! Apparently the other girls didn't? Any thoughts about how to deal the host parents on leaving the girls unsupervised?

That is rough. Girls can be so horrible to each other. I read this great book on the subject:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/
show/25357.Odd_Girl_Out
...you might want to check it out. It's about how parents and teachers can recognize when girls are being awful to each other, which is harder to see than boys fighting! And more...

Middle school is THE WORST!!! I don't envy her. Or you.
But you'll all get through it!
