INE-FALL MAGAZINE 2013
Saturday, October 19, 2013
Throughout the years people have always wanted to look fit and beautiful, they just don't want to work for it, and have looked for quick fixes, that require little or no effort. Today is no different that the past with the latest machines, now it's the magic weight-loss pill. Don't make the same mistakes as the last couple of generations!
1.THE BATTLE CREEK VIBRATORY CHAIR/1900/also invented corn flakes
claimed to stimulate intestinal, cure headaches, back pain,& and increase oxygen to the body. (here's an interesting resume)
2.THE MOLBY REVOLVING HAMMOCK/1922
stretch your spine to make you healthy, & have vitality, live longer, relax nerves,& enjoy life more. (sea sickness here I come)
3. DR. LAWTON'S GUARANTEED FAT REDUCER/1922
a device that made any part of your body thinner within a few days
4. GUSTAV ZANDER'S ABDOMINAL MACHINES/1890/1ST EXERCISE MACHINE
suppose to raise 'sunken vital energy' by hitting the body with perfect rhythmic oscillating
leather disks. (ouch!)
5. ALL SORTS OF ROLLER MASSAGERS
advertised as "vibrating or massaging the fat off," idea that fat would be loosen, enabling to flush it out. ( now wouldn't this be a sweet fantasy)
Theses were taken from:'The New York Times' on a story it published on January 20, 1853,
A top hat containing a device that brushes your teeth has won $16,000 in invention competition in London. Sam Hunter Baxter, 19, will have his invention made into a real gadget. He beat 300 other entries in the contest, including high heels that can store house keys, a beard-shaped razor and training shoes with rollers on the soles to act as mini-treadmills.
I am still unsure if this was suppose to be a joke, or that it was real.
