My new scale challenge, and kale chips.

Friday, October 18, 2013

So, everyone is telling me to stop weighing myself daily, and I know deep down that they are right. When I wasn't eating healthy I rarely got on the scale (maybe every 2-4 weeks), but when I do start eating healthy I tend to get on the scale every single morning to check my progress---though the body fluctuates so I have ruined my day based on a gain in water weight that day. So, I have decided that I will attempt to not weigh myself anymore until Thursday (my last weigh in).

The issue is that getting on the scale has become so routine every morning, so it will take 21-days to break that habit (like most habits). So now in place of hopping on the scale before brushing my teeth, I need to find a new ritual. I have no idea what it will be, but to keep this (healthy eating) a lifestyle, I need to make it more relaxed where I only weigh every 2-4 weeks eventually like I did when not eating healthy. For now, weighing once a week will be my challenge and goal to myself.

I made some kale chips, and gosh they easily replace potato chips for me. I am sure everyone is different though, but they were perfect! I would like to learn how to make bbq kale chips (my favorite flavor of potato chips is bbq). There has to be some dry rub or something I could use.

Goodnight everyone!

I need to get a good recipe for Kale chips, I tried to make some once based on my memory from a tv show and they turned out terrible. A friend of mine made some once and they were nice and crunchy, but i hated the flavouing she used.

For the weighing in issue, i'm for weighing in once a week all the time, even if you're at maintenence, i keep my scale down in my basement so i have to go out of my way to use it. And since i started back at Spark People on a monday my weigh in day is monday. So far it works well for me. And if you have a troublesome week, it is usually a gain of 2-3 pounds which is easily worked off again over the next few weeks, but i find if i wait a few weeks without weighing it is easy to lose track of what you are doing and i can find quite a big gain 10+ Pounds, and it might be a few months to take it off again. OUCH! weekly is definitely where it's at for me.

I have a thought - why not make your new habit a gratitude list. Instead of looking at a number on a scale which may or may not be meaningful, try looking at your body and being grateful for all the parts that work so hard. I have one achy hip and one iffy knee, so I try to be appreciative of the other ones that work fine so far - a big deal at 56!

Also, If you just HAVE to weigh daily, try weight "averaging". Take the previous 7 days of weigh-ins, total them up, divide by 7, and you'll get a better picture of the overall downward trend, rather than a snapshot of a random moment in your week.
