All or nothing attitude

Today's Community Task is to blog about last time I fell victim to an all or nothing attitude. Well, it was just this past Wednesday. I work just one day a week. I take my lunch but this week I chose to go out to lunch at Sizzler with a friend. Seemed like a good choice but then I got tempted by some of the extras available on the soup and salad bar like the clam chowder and a little piece of cake and a spoonful or two of pudding. Pretty soon I felt as though I had blown it and snacked late into the evening after I got home. I did better the next couple of days although the temptation to snack in the evening was stronger than it is when I do a better job of sticking to the plan I make for the day. I went to a party last night and strayed from plan by enjoying a small glass of wine and some of the snacks provided. This morning I ate a light breakfast. I am not very hungry this morning. I have plans for a long walk later on and for some meditation time. I appreciated today's message from Coach Nicole about making the best choices you can with what's in front of you at the moment. That helps me to be in a better place to forgive myself when I perceive that I have strayed and to not stray as far thus not falling into that all or nothing attitude.

    This is great! I think I suffer from an all or nothing attitude more than I've ever considered. I will have to seriously think about it and catch myself the next time. I recognize the pattern though...I start to think "well I already blew it with that huge breakfast so I might as well just enjoy today" or "I might as well get what I like since none of the choices are great ones." This is a bit of an ah-ha! moment for me. I've never really thought about my actions as stemming from an attitude like this.

My father and I enjoy going to the movies together and we've got one coming up this weekend. I used to feel that "well since I'm getting this horribly fattening popcorn I might as well have a soda too." This time though, I think I'll do what he does and get a bottled water instead. I know that I'm going to have the popcorn. That's one of the things I've allowed myself in this eating plan since we don't go to the movies all that often. But just because I'm having the popcorn doesn't mean I have to go further down that bad path does it? Nope, I think it'll be water this time!

Thanks so much for this blog post. You've also inspired me to look a bit more closely at the spark coach option. Going to see what it's all about today!
