I've got that Outkast song in my head today, and I've been resisting the urge to "shake it like a polaroid picture..." all day. You're welcome, strangers, for sparing everyone the awkwardness of witnessing my attempts at "dancing." LOL
What's Good Sparkfam?!?
It's been SO LOOOONG. I've missed you guys again!
Since my last entry I've had one run, Runtober
and I have another
looming around the corner on Saturday! I'm really excited about this one because I think I may finally break the 2 hour mark for my half marathon. Last time I was pretty close, but I didn't have official timing nor proper preparedness (showed up 50 Shades Of Late, lol. I had a long run yesterday because I was out of town this past weekend (in Lafayette!!! Woohoo, I'll tell you abt that in a bit) and didn't really have the time to sneak in any extended fitness minutes.
I did 10 miles yesterday at an average pace of 9'25" per mile. That was running/jogging interspersed with walking/speedwalking.
At that pace I could finish in just over 2 hours (2 hours and about 6 minutes). SO, all I have to do is increase my running intervals and speed up my walking to jogging pace and I should be able to reach my goal, right? I think so!
Can I just say that running in the cold is SO much better than running in the heat? Personal preference, I know, but the cold air just feels so good traveling through my airways and filling up my lungs. I really believe I can breathe more deeply in the cold.
Okay now back to Lafayette! My college friend from UL got married this weekend, YAY
*hums the wedding march* So I flew to Houston on Friday so my bf could drive us to Lafayette. We got in late Friday/early Saturday (didn't really look at the time). Woke up the next morning and drove to Prejeans to have breakfast. I am happy to announce that I only ate one sweet potato biscuit (he got extra to go, lol). I swear the only time he eats poorly is when we're in Louisiana, which is terrible considering I'm abt to be a registered dietitian, lol. It was his first time in Lafayette, so I had to allow him to experience all of the goodness of Lafayette cuisine. After breakfast we took a driving tour of UL, I wanted to get out and walk so I could show him the bayou and different things around the campus (which has changed a bit since I was last there), but we decided against it for lack of time, he did, however get to see my favorite tree in all the whole world Yep, the one that used to be my background pic. I'll have to find it and add it to my gallery.
The wedding was in Opelousas. The ceremony and reception were beautiful. The reception started out on a shaky note because one of the guests at the table where we were sitting had apparently gotten an early start on the alcohol and inadvertantly sprayed my bf and I with whatever he was drinking while laughing at a joke I must have missed
. Soooo, we moved to a different table on the completely opposite side of the room and were incident-free for the remainder of the reception. The cake was from Gambino's so, of course it was delicious! It was great to see her my friend again on such a joyous occasion, she was absolutely radiating beauty. I'm so happy for her
My bf also had Raising Cane's for the first time ever this trip, which is surprising because I'm sure they have them in Houston, right? Plus they're popping up all over the place in Oklahoma City (I can think of four locations within a 5-25 minute drive from where I am now). He was perplexed by the abundance of drive-thru daiquiri places, lol. Sunday we went to New Iberia for the gumbo festival! I tried a "green gumbo" with cabbage greens, collard greens, okra, etc.; it was AWESOME! I also tried a gluten free gumbo made from a corn and sorghum based roux, it was pretty good as well. I almost missed out on seafood, because I was being picky, lol. I tried a filet mignon and lobster gumbo as well, but didn't like it because the beef was too overpowering and made it taste more like a beef stew than a gumbo.
After a wild goose chase in Scott, attempting to locate Best Stop, we headed back to Houston. It was a great weekend. I enjoyed myself, didn't overindulge too much and got to show my bf another little bud in the rosebush from which I bloomed.
I know this blog is getting really long, but who knows when I'll next have time to sit and update you guys, so let's continue.
I am one of the new Ambassadors for Black Girls Run! Oklahoma!!! Yay! I'm so excited, we have not made a formal announcement as of yet (there are three of us newbies, and we're still working out some details). I am SO excited about this, I just can't even explain right now. I have a conference call a little later and we'll be discussing everything then. I will surely keep you guys up to date on this as everything unfolds, so until next time...and hopefully it will be sooner than a month from now...wish me luck and pray for the success of this venture and that it will positively impact the health of women in Oklahoma.
Love you all & will probably be posting, commenting, liking, and giving goodies today while I have the chance!
