Beth, My Dear Wife

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

I fear the back surgery is actually harder on Beth than on me.

Her duties have about tripled since my first back surgery.

Why?

* Even when I'm not in pain, I can't drive because of the narcotics. I have various doctor, clinic, lab, and imaging appointments at least 3X per week.
* I can't bend over for any reason, so anything on the lower shelves has to be gotten for me.
* The dressings on the back sutures have had to be changed three to four times a day at first. Now, we're down to twice a day. She's an RN used to working with premie babies not big, clumsy galoots like me.
* She has taken over all my chores: dishes, garbage, recycling, the half of the cooking I used to do, groceries and all errands away from the house.
* I have so much stuff out in the den including ice packs, blankets, phones, computers, notes, pills, etc.
* Our trips to the drug store are at least three times per week.
* Help with showers.
* 1000 other things I can't remember.

She a Celtics fan, more so even than I am, yet she's unable to stay awake for more than about 5 minutes worth of any game. (Although, that may be merciful, this season.)

Thank you, Beth!

    Beth sounds like a lovely lady Lee and I can see from your words how indebted you feel towards her. I no doubt that if it was the other way around and it was her with the back problems you would help her the same way she is helping you.

What you both have is so very special so please cherish it for as long as you can.

You're a lucky bloke Lee - she sounds like a true diamond.

Cheers

Trev

    So nice to see a man who truly appreciates all the work his wife has done & continues to do, and will tell others about it. emoticon

I hope you continue to improve. God Bless. emoticon

    My husband tells people he married well so I will say that regarding your choice of Beth. I'm sure that if the situation were reversed you would do the same. It's the mark of a good marriage and the basis for all those promises about "for better - for worse, for richer - for poorer, in sickness and in health." My husband and I have explored the gamut of our vows and have remained strong. I'm sure Beth will be thrilled to have you back whole again. You have worked hard and have proven your worth to her and to all of us who know you. Nothing worse than a sniveling weenie who uses his illness to become a huge baby for life. That would not be you.

    Lovely that you appreciate her efforts. I know that my husband acknowledging the effect his injury has on me makes a huge difference!
