The pitfalls of potlucks...

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

O my! Where to start? I went to a local and sustainable foods potluck with mom this evening. The food was healthy, but there were so many choices. Ack! I know I ate too much. I tried tracking everything, but I know I am missing something. And of course I tried to take small portions, but I am not sure how successful I was. Oh well, it was one night. Tomorrow is a new day, right? The hardest part of the evening for me was the socializing. I hate big group events. I wouldn't have gone except I was the one driving. We really don't want mom driving, especially at night, so I was elected. I survived, but that is the best I can say about it.

We are not taking our niece out kayaking tomorrow morning, as the temperature is going to drop overnight and she doesn't have cold weather gear. But Jeremy and I both have cold weather gear now, so we might go for an evening paddle if the wind stays reasonable. I have been saying we need to do another moonlight paddle, and this looks like our opportunity. Should be fun, and I will have a reason to wear my wetsuit.

Cooper didn't want to walk much today, and I humored him, so instead of 9 or 10 miles we walked more like 5 miles. Spoiled pup!

Eh, your course is so well controlled most days that you have a little wiggle room. Pot lucks are difficult, tho, with all the good stuff.

I don't like groups either. I have some social anxiety and it is nerve wracking for me to be in those situations. Hope you get that moonlight paddle in. It sounds so relaxing but I know you work hard. Be careful, and have a wonderful time. Cooper does have his moments doesn't he? LOL Be safe.

life is full of "potlucks" ~ situations where we have more choices than we know are good for us, times that we have to push out of our comfort zone and just mingle with the crowd for a few hours. those experiences stretch us, but rarely do permanent damage, and they give us the opportunity to prove to ourselves once again how far we have come on our journey.
I hope the weather cooperates and you get another chance at a (near) full moon paddle
BTW-had a chance to listen to your interview today- great work!

I hope you have a good time tomorrow. And we all have bad days. It's what we do with them afterwards that makes the difference.
