Planning for success this autumn

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

This summer was a real success for me - and I am ready to start again making some more progress.

I have maintained my weight loss since August, but now I would like to move beyond this place on the scale and start going down again.

Autumn, of course, is very different from summer. It has its own set of challenges.

In the fall, I have more demands on my time and energy. I am teaching two mornings a week, so I have lessons to prepare and papers to mark on a regular basis.

I am babysitting every Tuesday afternoon, and have a few evening meetings to attend: a monthly book group, and a photography group that meets twice a month.

Also, I have a couple of trips planned to visit with friends and family out-of-state.

These are all handled pretty well though, and should not prevent me from staying on plan.

Some of the events do prevent me from walking first thing in the morning - so I will have to be more flexible with the timing of my walks, and do some of them in the afternoon.

Actually, the fall is glorious here in New England - and the sunny days call to me to be outside to experience all the beauty. Walking and soaking it in is a real treat.

Of course, the fall does have a couple of holidays that revolve around FOOD.
Add that to all the fairs and festivals that are held here at this time of year - the ones my husband and I love to go to -- and we have a real temptation factor, almost every weekend.

Apple pie takes center stage here in autumn. I cannot have the season go by without making a pie. So I will do that, for sure. But I will make a point of counting it in with my calories for the day.

The other foods in this season lend themselves to Sparking -- soup and stews, warm bowls of deliciousness. I am looking forward to making lots of my own recipes - and many new recipes I have gathered here at SP.

So let me just begin this whole autumn campaign by making one short-term goal for myself. For this next week - seven days - I will track my food carefully and i will stay within the calorie limits.
For this coming week, I am removing the wiggle room I have allowed myself recently with tracking. It is important for me to list every food I eat faithfully every single day.
No Excuses.

I will also walk three miles at least four times during this next week.

Okay. That's the plan. It starts now....

That sounds like a very reasonable plan.

I don't eat sugar any more, but when I did and I had apple pie, I made sure I ate as little crust as I could and still enjoy the pie. Most of the calories are in the crust as I imagine you already know.

Reading about your plans for this fall has helped me to remember all the wonderful things I love about this season - cool, crisp weather, the hustle and bustle of fall fairs, festivals and family gatherings, the mouth-watering aromas of apple pies, soups and stews, and time to take nice walks outdoors.
Best wishes for success with your autumn program for better health!

I love fall. I make crustless apple pies now. I love the filling mostly.

That's a good plan. If you don't record what you eat, you don't know what you eat. And if you don't know what you eat, you can't make controlled changes to what you eat.

Exercise is wonderful, and exercise helps with the weight loss, and exercise can be fun, but you can't out-exercise uncontrolled eating. You have a good plan for the autumn, and you have the memory of a good plan for the summer working well. Now go make the autumn plan work as well as the summer plan did!
