Pizza Lunch- Plan of Action

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

So the weigh in went really well. 4 lbs down. I was off for a long fall break. It was back to work yesterday. It was interesting in the tracking department how much more I eat while at home. There are so many temptations around.
I am glad to be back at my regular routine. Its amazing how your battery can be recharged just from taking a few days off.
OH, I have to write about my plan of the day. Today we are having pizza during a lunch meeting. I know, I know, its PIZZA and I shouldn't indulge but I have a plan and it saved me from having to put together a lunch for today. Also, in this healthy lifestyle we all choose to pursue, we have to find balance. For some, pizza is always off limits but I find I do better watching portions, making healthy choices most of the time and practicing the 80/20 rule. 80 percent of the time I eat healthy, 20 % I allow some slippage. It doesn't work for everyone but after being in maintenance and keeping the majority of 70 lbs gone for over 5 years ( and trying every gimmicky thing out on the market) I have realized what works for me.
So this is the plan.
I brought all of my healthy snacks. I am planning on going to my spin class/weight training class tonight. One of my fellow co-workers brought a big box of fresh apples in. I am going to eat an apple right before the meeting. This way I will only be tempted to eat one piece of pizza, and since I got to help place the order for the pizza I have some control over what type of pizza I eat. I think we ordered a nice thin crust veggie pizza. I will eat one piece of that after I eat my apple. Should be well within my calorie range. I never indulge in soda, water for me! So no fear of extra calories there. I will even track the calories of my lunch beforehand so it will be more solidified.
Off to get cracking at some meeting planning. TTYL!!
Keep Sparking,

Paige

I think this is a very level headed plan of action. Yes, some people can trust themselves to do the 80/20. Mine always started at 50/50 and then went to 100% within a couple of days. My body simply doesn't get what it is looking for in cooked/processed foods. Again, you amaze me!

Congrats for this plan and congrats for being at maintenance for 5 years! Question: when does maintenance change to simply being a normal program of life? I think you've made it.

Very good strategy! I see you have some coworkers who are helpers along the way, bringing apples and ordering thin crust veggie. Looking at calorie counter books, thick crust pizzas are dangerous! That's one thing I took away from perusing them. I just bought the 2014 Calorie King book and it's amazing what a difference simple choices can make, especially with restaurant entrees! Good job, Paige! Now I see how a person keeps it off successfully! The apple first was a good idea, and water and brewed green tea are my main friends in keeping calories out of the picture.

Very sensible pre-planning. Thin crust, lots of veggies would be my fave too.

I'm glad that you can enjoy it. Being Celiac, I can't eat anything anybody brings/ orders. Too high risk for cross-contamination (I've X-cont'd myself sharing a SPONGE in the sink at work).

Gluten-free crusts are never 'right' but after a few years, even those are pretty good -- I just have to provide my own food 100% of the time. You'd think that would mean I'm thin but I'm an excellent cook and enjoy my own food FAR too much!

It's easier for me to be slender eating junk (fast or processed) foods because they're individual servings instead of a feeding trough! As you say, it's up to me to make choices but it's just so easy to eat more when it's so good. Darn it! ;p

Good plan! It's SO MUCH BETTER than reacting at the last minute!
