So one of my motivational factors for eating right and getting fit is that diabetes runs in my family. Both of my grandmothers have (or had) late onset Type 2, and my mother was diagnosed this year with type 2, and she's in her 50s.
Basically, I'm doomed. But, that doesn't mean I should give up. I can work out and eat right so that I can put it off. The blood testing supplies are not cheap! My mom basically pays $2 a day for a needle and the blood testing strip.
Whenever my mom and I get together, we try out new low carb recipes. I've been working on buying healthier foods, and I know that exercise is a factor as well.
I think that if I continue doing what I'm doing, and every year increase these activities (getting rid of more unhealthy food, trying more and more recipes) then I am well on my way to staving off diabetes for as long as I can.
