Ballroom Dance Class and Hope Connection Cancer Buddy

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

Today has been an eventful day for me and it's been a good day.

My husband and I went to our first ballroom dance class today at the senior center. It was a lot of fun and felt like a workout! We practiced the fox trot and the swing. We both felt pretty good about what we learned in the fox trot, and we both felt pretty lost with the swing. I think the problem for us is that it's too much to try to learn two different dances in a one hour class. We are both "one dance at a time" people. In any event, it was fun and we plan to go back next week. Who knows? We might even practice in the meantime!

I'm happy that we did it. I feel fortunate to be married to someone interested in doing things like that. It's good!

Yesterday, I finally got around to calling the "Hope Connection" at Vanderbilt. It's a free service to cancer patients where they connect me up with someone with the same type of cancer that have and that has completed treatment. My new cancer buddy called me today. Sure enough, she had the same type of cancer (triple negative, high rate, high grade, stage 2B) and she is more than five years out in completing her treatment. For our particular type of cancer, she is past the "danger zone" of cancer metastasis. I liked her a lot and hope that we can develop a good relationship over the phone. We don't live close to each other, so it's not likely we will meet any time soon. It would be nice to meet, but I'm just so happy to talk in person with a survivor of my specific form of breast cancer.

Tomorrow, i go for round #7 out of 12 of my taxol chemo treatments. Other than the "crash" i experienced on day three post chemo, the week has been a smooth easy week.

And I still have enough hair to pass as normal! I'll take it!

Life is great.

This blog post makes me very happy, Kay. I can "hear" the joy and peace shining through your words. Would have loved to be a fly on the wall at the dance class!

Way to hang in there and stay active, in spite of challenges along the way.

That ballroom dancing sounds like fun! I love watching it; I remember years ago watching a few competitions on PBS before Dancing With the Stars really made it popular, and I enjoy DWTS too.

I'm glad you found a cancer buddy to connect with, and yay! that you still have your hair!

Wishing you all the best for your Taxol tomorrow; and just think, after that one, you are more than halfway done!

Yes while receiving treatment and doing an activity will make you tired. Nice that you have your hair. I'm 7 years out from 1st diagnosis ovarian cancer and 3 years out from bronchial (lung) cancer probably caused from ovarian. But I'm very optimistic with the treatments I've received and am confident now of the future !! God Bless You and rest up. emoticon

YAYA for both great things. and you are lucky my hubby won't do that type of stuff. He is there for me, but not keen on trying things he doesn't want to do.
And yes it is great that you are able to talk to someone that has had this and is doing well. So glad and you never know just may meet some day.
HUGS and good luck for tomorrow, remember nap before the blues come! soft gentle hugs. emoticon emoticon
