Going Low Carb?

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

I don't usually believe in fad diets. They only serve as a short term solution. But, as some of you know, I have been struggling to get rid of my "mom apron" or "donut belly" since I had my son 3 years ago. Everything I am researching online suggests lots of cardio and a low carb/low sugar diet to help with this issue.

If you know me, you know I am a carb-a-holic. We eat pasta 2-3 times a week, i love mashed potatoes (and potatoes in general), and bread....oh bread. I can forsee this being a problem lol.

So, for those of you who have adopted this low carb lifestyle, how have you made it work? Any tips/suggestions to make this a little easier?

Edit: I want to throw in that I have no intention of cutting them out all together. Also, I love fruits and veggies, so even though most of those contain carbs, I won't cut them out either. I guess I am just looking at a serious reduction in consumption. My body doesn't really like sugar anymore. I can no longer drink sweet tea because it makes me sick to my stomach (I lived on it for 20+ years). I also can't eat a lot of sweets/candy/etc. for the same reason. This has just started within the last year...

To replace pasta eat spaghetti squash. Mashed potatoes can be made using cauliflower. Bread can be mimicked with Revolution Rolls. Google it. emoticon

Take a look at a diet for diabetics. These are low carb without losing the nutrients you need. Perhaps your provider would prescribe a visit with a nutritionist.

switch to whole grains you can still eat bread ect just go for the less processed versions also try experimenting with things like spaghetti squash noodles or mashed cauliflower in place of potatoes if you have a pinterest account check there for a lot of lower carb options. I find what helps the most to drop the pounds and the bloat is to just try not to eat foods that have more than 3-6 ingredients listed then you really don't have to worry about the amount of carbs in it because really its not the carbs its all the processed junk in the food that's giving you a little extra padding ;) good luck!

I have one suggestion.....Eggplant in place of Pasta

This past weekend my husband and I tried eggplant for the first time. The dinner came out really good ( happily surprised ). It reminded us of lasagna but without the cheese.
