A little over a week ago my husband accepted an invitation to friends' home for dinner on Saturday October 13. My initial thought was great a free meal and time with friends what could be better. I've been doing really well with my exercise and eating routine so no problem managing one night out. However, midway through the week it occurred to me - that it was thanksgiving week-end and we were going to my sister-in-laws home to join the rest of the family for a thanksgiving feast on Sunday. Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday. I love turkey. Trying to be positive I put on a brave face and told myself we can go for a hike/walk on the trails by my sister-in-law's place and I'll get the exercise I need to counter act the extra eating.
Whammy one - an Italian dinner. Wine, anti pasto course, pasta course, steak and seafood, dessert course and brandy. A total of 1924 calories for the day (a very conservative estimate)
Whammy two - a Thanksgiving dinner. Sausage stuffing, green beans, carrots, cranberry sauce, gravy, carrot cake, black forest cake ( did I mention that one of my sister-in-laws is a pastry chef?) and pumpkin pie! I did manage not to have any potato and not very much stuffing as I don't really like the sausage stuffing.
Whammy three - it rained all day on Thanksgiving day so no walk. Only lots of sitting and talking.
The bright side - The next day, yesterday, was a beautiful day so my wonderful husband and I went for a hike in the Forks of the Credit River park. We did 10K and did the equivalent of about 75 flights of stairs according to my fitbit. Not enough to erase the indulgences of the last 2 days but it's a start.
