Clean Eating Challenge: Venting

Monday, October 14, 2013

Okay, I received another Sparkmail from another team member that really irritated me today. I'm really trying to keep my cool about these crazy messages I have been receiving lately. First message was about my running group. Now, this one is about how I chose to motivate people. I don't get it. But the one thing I have to keep in mind is the fact that I cannot nor will not please everyone. I just had to vent for a little bit because I do not want the reactions of others deter me from keeping my eyes on the prize as well as keep me from doing me!

Also, I do feel that I will be done with doing anymore challenges on Spark People after this challenge that will end in December. I will be removing myself from certain Spark Teams as well as removing individuals from being Spark friends. I chose to continue to surround myself with positive people along with active teams. So, some hard decisions will be made about Sparkpeople. Again, forgive me for venting!

Now, about my Clean Eating Challenge. It is really hard to eat clean while traveling. I had another job interview today near the Chicago area. So, yesterday and today were not good days for me. However, I will get back on track tomorrow. During my weigh-in this past Saturday, I gained a pound, but I lost 0.7% body fat. My new goal is to continue to maintain my goal weight of 135 pounds (133-137 pounds) along with reducing my body fat. I know the clean eating will continue to help me with this as well as strength training. I'm really pressing in with my eating habits as well as with my workouts.

Additionally, I will be starting my Half Marathon training tomorrow with a 3-mile easy run along with strength training.

    Keep pushing on!

Plan your meals and pack em if you have no time to be home and make good food. Best way to continue eating clean. I haven't tackled that challenge yet, but certainly intend to sometime in the near future.

Keep doing what feels good to you and clearing out the unnecessary 'clutter' (negatives) is a good thing. Ignore that other stuff and move on.

Oh...I'm so sorry to hear about the negative remarks & attitudes you are experiencing.that's not right at all.People can be very ugly. I understand how difficult it is to have to deal with . but Stand tall ! You are inspiring & doing great ! Try to forget the nay- sayers ! Eliminate the negative teams& " friends" people like that really aren't your friends ! You don't need them ! Stick with the positive, supportive people !!

That is horrible that you've felt attacked on here. SparkPeople is supposed to be a healthy, positive place. I've never had a bad experience on here and I'm sorry to hear there are people on here that make it that way for others. I think of places such as Twitter or Facebook when I hear things like this, not SparkPeople! I'd rid myself of the negative energy they sent your way too by deleting them unless they came to you respectfully. I'm all for constructive criticism or allowing people to share their opinions but only in a respectful manner.

Clean eating IS hard. I've been doing a lot of research on it and cleaning things up but like you said when traveling it is difficult. Even without travel I find it can be hard unless I avoid a lot of situations. I guess it's just key to do the best you can when you can and when situations aren't ideal I try to stick with the healthiest option. Of course my trip to a mexican restaurant last night and the week before probably weren't very clean...whoops!

Hi Stevie! I haven't had the time to check out your blogs for awhile now. I just hate to hear how team members discourage you instead of motivate you! I think I've said it before to you and to others... We simply can't please everyone on a team or even in our friends circles! Someone out there will always be a Negative Nancy or Negative Ned telling us what we shouldn't be doing! I am no longer a Firecracker, simply for a change, no personal slights or anything.... So, don't know what all is up, but I'm in the 5% chalenge still because it does give me mmore motivation and structure! But, you know you have to do what is right for you! I'm going to find your clean eating challenge blog and see what you are up to! All I can say is I admire you taking on such a challenge. I know that I do not have the will power for it even though I know my body would appreciate clean eating!Keep doing what is right for Stevie! You have os accomplished so much to be proud of and are a healthy person as a result! YOU did that! Good luck on the job hunt and finding ways to eat clean as you travel!

Do you is my mantra! You can't please everyone and not everyone will agree with you. I dropped sparkteams and challenges a ways back... I know you'll keep your focus and not let this derail your good! Hang in there and vent anytime...

You are right. You cannot please everyone. However, I think you are motivating, inspiring, and just plain awesome so don't worry about the couple of people who are irritated with you for whatever reason. There's a quote I read somewhere that goes something like, "Those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter." Keep being who you are and doing what you do!

As for the clean eating challenge, yeah it's always more difficult to eat the way you want to when traveling. However, the fact that you're not giving up and continuing to move forward makes the difference between failing and succeeding with some bumps in the road. You're doing great!

I do send out team emails to try and motivate and encourage others. I never gave a thought to them irritating people. I don't think that is the intention of any of these people and they may not know how you feel about the emails. I think that if I try to be more careful about offend some people I may fall back into the trying to please everyone pit. I didn't like it there.

I know that I cannot change anything outside of myself. The only things that I can change are me and my attitude. It has taken me a long time to learn this lesson but it is a life changing one.
So if I got a Spark letter that really irritated me the first question I would ask myself is Why?. Why is this email irritating me? Why am I letting it affect how I feel? I do this process because my reaction to say an email is usually indicative of something else that is going on with me such as I am tired or trying to please too many people or ...

Just a thought.
