400 days

Monday, October 14, 2013

Today is my 400th consecutive day tracking my food on SparkPeople.

I have not taken a single day off. I am both a little amazed by this fact and somewhat disturbed. One more piece of evidence that I may be crazy and tend to be compulsive. (Who, me?)

When I started tracking in September of last year, I found it to be enlightening right away. I had really been kidding myself about the healthiness of my food choices and how much I was consuming. It's no wonder I was on the fast track to 300 pounds.

I continue to track because it keeps me honest. I don't expect to track for the rest of my life, but I'm not stopping yet. My idea is to track until I get to goal, then track for a year of maintenance. If this "plan" needs to be adjusted, I will make changes as needed.

I know tracking isn't for everyone. I know it's tedious. I know that ideally we should be able to eat when we're hungry, stop when we have had enough and trust ourselves to make good choices. I'm just not there yet. Tracking is still a good tool for me and I am grateful for it.

Yes, tracking is essential in so many ways.
And since you did it 400 days in a row, maybe it's not that tedious after all:)

I think it is an AWESOME achievement!!
We have to rid ourselves of what we guess healthy eating should look like.
If you need to track, then track away, Sister!!

Love, Ginger

Wow. That's amazing, really. I started tracking, and then felt like I was getting to obsessive about it, and shortly after I started, I had a binge, and was too embarrassed. So I haven't tracked again! Thanks for this blog post, because will get me back into it. I love how the spark site gives a break down of everything I've eaten (calories, fat, carbs etc.) on the day.

Congratulations on those 400 days tracked!!!

Sometimes we need to be a bit obsessive in order to achieve our goals, so if it's working, stick with it.

Good luck!
