Better than Las Vegas

Monday, October 14, 2013

Well, the Vegas trip fell through due to an unusual number of roadblocks and not being able to get air fare on short notice in my budget. Good thing too since the property tax bill came in the mail, and I forgot to include it in my finances.

The great news is our weather is as good as Vegas this week and I had so much fun today.

First Buddy and I walked for an hour on an old railroad bed covered in yellow maple leaves.

Later in the afternoon, GD and drove to the Pumpkin Patch and walked an hour in the Corn Maze.

Then it took us an hour to get a mile off the island. So we took pictures and quoted movie lines.

Happy Halloween from Halloweentown.

I love that you call yourself a persistent plodder, lol. My kids call me an energizer bunny but I think my batteries must be very low as I am slow slow slow. I love canoeing. I managed to get into a kayak last summer which thrilled me. I have a knee replacement and my upper body strength was limited so the only way I used to be able to get in was with DH helping and the only way out was to roll over and swim out. However I'm stronger and the kayak at the cottage seems to be more stable. I'm very hopeful. Also I find walking is my anchor. It's a long journey but I'm grateful for all my spark friends. Justyna

Cathy -- We were very close to being at the same place at the same time! You could have hopped a bus and come to Redding and we would have brought you to Las Vegas. The weather has been super nice here since we came back -- only in the 70s with a light breeze. People who like Vegas can't understand why we don't indulge more when we are here for over a month. We just aren't interested in gambling and doing the night life stuff. It was a wicked week-end of shootings and robberies, so you are much safer where you live! There was a big triathalon in Boulder City -- a 59 year old man who was the principal at one of the schools in the area died of a heart attack at the lake (he couldn't be revived). His two sons were waiting for him to finish the swim at the marina. We have two more days here, then we start the drive cross-country. We are always sad to leave and look forward to the spring trip. My husband went to high school in this little town and it will forever be home. He moved from Yuma, Arizona with his parents and sister. Our life here is so calm and peaceful compared to our life in S.C. It is hard having grandchildren on both coasts! Blessings, Lennie emoticon

There's no place like home...My family learns this every time we visit some where else thinking it's better than where we live...Looks like you found some pretty amazing scenery to enjoy and made some great memories as well.
