Disappointed

Sunday, October 13, 2013

I signed up for an awesome 5K that is happening basically in my backyard on Nov. 2. I just started training for it at the end of last week, and yesterday morning I sprained my ankle. Like really, really bad. The doctor at urgent care today said it will be about 2 months until I can run again. Ugh!!! So frustrated.

I was all fired up about getting in shape and getting into a good fitness routine, and now boom! I can barely walk. Of course I'm glad that I didn't break my ankle, or that I didn't completely separate the ligaments in my ankle, but I'm really bummed about the race.

Anyway, I guess now I need suggestions for how to stay in shape without my legs (at least until I can start walking). I don't have access to a rowing machine. Right now all I can think of is upper body strength training, which is OK but not a full cardio workout in itself. Help! Please. :)

Chair exercises for now! All is not lost! Many think until we get closer to our weight loss goal, we shouldn't try anything like running because muscle weighs more than fat.
Also fat will turn to muscle and that makes it much harder to loose weight!
Regardless of which camp you put your faith in, be encouraged keep right on moving!!!

So sorry that you got hurt and will have to miss your race. There will be another opportunity when you are feeling better!

Oh, that's awful, I'm so sorry to hear it! I've sprained mine badly before and it is horrible.

I also just had to back out of some 5Ks, not for injury but because I have to work on those days! Alas. I will just have to sign up for some more later. You can, too, once you're back on your feet again.

Upper body ST is going to be your friend for a while, definitely!! It can be a cardio workout if you do enough! Using crutches is cardio, too. Hop on the other foot holding onto something for balance? LOL.
