That was how far and how long our trip was back to Iowa to visit my mother-in-law. Her birthday is on Monday, but the celebration was Friday. We decided to go at the last minute brought on by the fact that turning 80 is a pretty wonderful thing, and she was feeling ill. When we got there all was fine (turned out she was having a reaction to an antibiotic). So we mingled with the birthday girl and talked with hubs' (approximate) bazillion relatives and then it was time to head back home.
Long car trips can be hard. We packed a cooler full of good things, which we ate. Then along about the 7-8th hour after the conversation had died, Elton John was playing on the radio--again, the Crosswords Puzzle was too difficult and my books just didn't enthuse, we uncorked a bag of chips and that was it. Here's the equation: Long Car Ride + Boredom + Tortilla Chips = FAIL. Then we had birthday cake and pizza later. Eek!
It was a good trip and I learned something. Three trigger points for me: boredom, salty chips and an attitude of 'well, I've eaten this much why not more'? Knowledge is power!
