I survived the Zombie 5K tonight!

Saturday, October 12, 2013

As most of you know, I didn't feel ready & pumped for this race... ( read my last blog ) But, I arrived as ready as I could be, early tonight at the starting line...This race began at the witching hour of 5:30. . . .and there were many actors all costumed up ...looked like a scene from a horror flick. emoticon

With all of my family members cheering me on. . . .I got excited! emoticon
There was a nice turnout of close to 200 runners. The course was quite hilly and narrow. Also, we just had a heavy shower of rain 2 hours before the puddles met us at every turn. emoticon emoticon Truthfully, I felt this 5K was an obstacle course. LOL! emoticon emoticon

My first mile clocked in at 9:13 (I was pretty stoked about that! ) , but then the zombies started to chase us OFF OF THE TRAIL. That wasn't fun at all! ....I lost time even though I sprinted to keep away from them. Personally, I think they took their"job" a bit too far. They grabbed a few runners hard. . .and just got a little bit too rough with some of the runners.

With that said, my 2nd mile was 11:30...then I began to have cramps in my abdomen....I never ever have cramps when running...I think it might have been due to the adrenaline and the escape mode I was in. Lol.
My 3rd mile was also a slower one....I didn't even look at my Garmin because my focus was Escape Mode. I ended the emoticon with a time of 35:50. I was happy with it - Considering the circumstances.

All in all, it was a Blast, nice goodie bag, and my children loved the costume dog show afterwards. The cool fact that I have been pondering is that, I think I am capable of a better time....perhaps 33 minutes ....WITHOUT zombies though.
Looking forward to the next race!

OH, my...I am behind on my blog reading! I'm glad you had a good time at the zombie run with family cheering you on. And I totally get your response to family needs taking priority. There may be times when you'll need to say no, but you'll KNOW when it's time because you hear the voice of the one who KNOWS. Have a great weekend (I'm packing for Florida again!)

Great job! I agree that the zombies made it a bit more difficult!

Great work outrunning them. Seems like it would be a bit scary to be chased during a race. You survived! I get scared when I use my 'Zombies Run' running app. Haha. I don think I'd make it with real zombies! emoticon

I run all my runs with a stomachache. I guess its the adrenaline & the speed - no matter how many speed training runs I do, I cannot recreate the excitement of race day.
If you find a cure, please share it with me ;)

Sounds like a fun race! You've come a long way on this journey. So fun to observe.

That's an excellent time! I can't run that fast even without puddles or zombies! Sounds like a cool themed race.

Yay for avoiding the zombies!! Runs that like really aren't for racing as such, there more for just getting out and having a good time. I would really worry about your splits.

I am impressed that you avoided puddles and zombies and still had an adequate time.
    Run on! emoticon
