Almost a week, one day short of sticking with the lower carb diet and I'm feeling results! I am down about 3 pounds this week. Woo-hoo! But what is more important to me is that I feel better. I have more energy. When I come home from work I don't just sit down on the sofa and end the day, I have actually had energy and motivation to clean up a little and do some laundry. (Doesn't that sound fun!) But I really do feel a difference.
It has definitely been a struggle to stay away from the sugar, the first day or two I was having MAJOR cravings for it. Don't get me wrong, I would still love to have something sweet, but I don't feel the craving like I did before.
I have learned that it is a habit to eat when I get home. I packed a healthy snack to eat on the car ride home so that I wouldn't be ravaging when I arrived home. When I got home I still wanted to eat. I knew I wasn't hungry. I realized that eating was more of a habit or comfort thing. So I started having a cup of hot decaf green tea, trying to replace a bad habit with a healthier one.
I also have realized that I am not drinking nearly enough water. So I am going to try to start adding in a bottle of water to drink on the drive home with the healthy snack. Then I will see where else I can start adding one.
One problem that I did have is that I am getting bored with what I am eating, and it's only been one week! I am vegetarian and trying to do low carb had been a challenge. For breakfast I have eggs. I need to get more creative so I'm not bored. I have also been eating Greek yogurt. (I know it's not the best low carb, but it has high protein and calcium which are important for me to have.) Also a salad each day, soup, and one fruit (mostly apples this week since I bought a bag of organic) as well as almonds. I enjoy it all, I just need to change it up a bit so that there is more variety. I know it will be easier to stick with if I am enjoying it and not bored with it.
As well as I did getting my eating together I didn't work out after Sat. Grrrrr. I am going to go walking tonight. So my goal for this coming week it is to continue with the eating and get in at least 3 days of walking. I just printed out the Spark 5K plan which I would like to start. This is my motivation to get going. I"m going to look for a 5k that is 8 weeks away to sign up for. I'm going to see if my neighbor has any interest in doing it with me. I'm always better at sticking to it when I have someone else holding me responsible!
I can and WILL do this! :)
