I finally found a fun place to run!
Those of you who have known me on here for a while know that I had an awesome bike path to run on back when I lived in Massachusetts, an old tree-lined converted rail trail that wound behind people's houses and past a big ol' pond/lake full of ducks and swans and bunnies and awesomeness. A major contribution to getting in shape back then was from wanting to be on the bike path, running along and just soaking in the great outdoors.
When I moved to Pennsylvania I lost my bike path. I found some wooded trails but they were very hilly, very isolated, and much less safe. I felt compelled to carry pepper spray if I did want to go for a run on them, and the end result was that I stopped running.
But I moved again about and month and change ago, and today I finally - finally! - went out exploring / running. I spotted a bike path about half a mile from my house and went down it, and it is delightful! No pond, sadly, but it does go along behind people's yards so it seems fairly safe, and it goes along three beautiful parks! A couple of them have playgrounds with monkey bars and the like, so I will be able to work on my pull-ups again. And there were trees! And wildlife! And a couple of soccer fields to run across, because why not?
Needless to say, I am one happy panda today! Since I had taken so much time off from running I started with a C25K week 1 day 1 run, but I wasn't really paying attention and the podcast finished before I turned around to head home. I got bored walking back so I started sprinting intermittently after my 30 minutes were up. Sun was shining, birds were chirping, squirrels were...squirreling, and I was so happy to be running again! Yay!
If I can keep this up I really could be in shape before my 30th birthday this winter. Spark on!
