1 year ago we took our student leadership team on a team-building activity that involved a high ropes course. While I was able to attend the activity, I was unable to do any of the activities except walk to each area at my own pace (slow and unsteady) across the rough terrain, up substantial hills, and sitting when I could to cope with the pain. It was a wonderful experience, but I paid for it for a week in sheer pain and immobility.
Today will bring me a rare second chance! We have a similar event today at a different facility, and I am attending. This time, however, I did not just walk the facility. I participated fully in all the activities (including the 100 foot cable swing in the tree canopy, and then climbed 50 feet into a tree, stood on an 18" x 18" platform and leaped out onto a trapeze bar [it's called the Leap of Faith]) - because this year I COULD. This year, I can move freely, am so much stronger, have so much more energy and flexibility, can climb and even run. It seems such a miracle to me that I was able to do this, a dream really. I have so many emotions surging through me at this thought that it is hard not to be emotional. It was an amazing and incredible experience.
There was no better way to top a day of Team-building in the treetops than with a personal training session with my favorite Scotsman! I even treated myself to a mango sorbet with some fresh sliced kiwi!
Thank yous go out to all those who have supported me on this journey thusfar. Extra special thanks go out to Ross Gilbert, Melissa Palme' Davidson, Kendra Zartman, Amanda Butler, Stacy Blaisdell Datin, my "Dragon Family," my SparkFamily, and so many more friends who have provided unwavering strength and support throughout this amazing journey. There is more yet to come!
