I am 'jailed' in the bedroom area! Our floors are being refurbished and they are still wet.

Friday, October 11, 2013

Half the rooms are done! It has been an interesting (not!) 2 and a half days!

DH and I are jailed in the back bedroom area right now. I brought in a cooler with food, a thermos of coffee, glasses for water, my computer and all the mail to take care of, the cat emoticon , keep us occupied.

We had our beds and all the furniture in the living room area for 2 nights. Now we need to have everything with us in this back bedroom area.

I am a little more free than DH because of his heavy wheelchair. Between coats of polyurethane I have a little time to be able to walk on the dry floor. But his wheelchair would wreck the not fully hardened floor.

The phone keeps ringing!!!! I think I left all the phones out in the kitchen and I can't get to the,! Oops!

I love the new floors. This is the second big task I tackled to get us able to sell the condo and move back home near my family. I am alone caring for my husband after his stroke 7 years ago.

I think I want a condo there with a place for a live-in health aide. I hope I can manage that somehow. I think I will have to "spend down" and go on Medicaid. That is not what I wanted but there seems to be no choice.

You never know where live will take you. Enjoy each step of the journey and try not to worry about the bends in the road. Some how things always work out in the end and many times better then we ever dreamed. Think of your room at a tiny cabin in woods and you are on a weekend retreat. Take Care emoticon

Have never actually remodeled, but have moved some very heavy furniture from the family room a few times - once to shampoo the whole room, once to have new carpet laid, and more recently, we moved about 1/2 the stuff so the guys could get in to remove the sofa and recliner - and days later other men delivered the new stuff. I REALLY don't want to do all you're doing. But the wood floors will be beautiful!

Wishing you and DH all the best about this and the hoped-for move.

I refinished the hardwood floors in all three bedrooms in one week. I also used the low-smell poly on them,, Three coats on each was fun.. They are beautiful can only MAKE money on them.. 99% of people do not want carpet now.. You will not regret the inconvenience..
DD and I tore up all of the carpeting and padding in the bedrooms, living room, hallway, one bathroom, then pained every room in the house except the bathrooms, which I gutted completely to the boards. Then the floors, new ceiling fans and gutted kitchen. That was all on one year. the next year was a new roof, insulation, windows, siding, garage door and opener, gutters and gutter helmet.
Houses are so much work,, a condo would be my next choice...

So much to go thru and you aren't staying there. It seems a shame now a days. When we bought a house, it was as is with no appliances. You bought it and fixed it up, not like now. It still was expensive compared to the pays we were making. I wish you well In moving, it's a lot of work, I hope you find help.

We had wood floors put in our house gradually. First the kitchen, Dining Room and Hall and then the Sun Porch, Two Bedrooms and the Office. It was an adventure to say the least moving all of the furniture from one place to the other and back again. Then the next year we decided to paint the whole thing. I appreciate the fix you are in. Good luck selling your condo.

I hope you can achieve your goals and know you did your best. Sometimes it's really hard to make your choice and live with it even when you know you really had no choice but the one you went with.

Best of luck in your future. emoticon

What a challenge but it sounds like you are managing. I am sure you will enjoy they floors after they are done. We had our hardwood floors done years ago after being covered with carpeting and they were awesome when redone-we didn't realize they had gotten wet in places and that is what made us have to redo them.
I hope that you will be able to move back sooner than you plan so you will be able to get help caring for DH.

That must be a test of will! Our house is in a mess while remodeling but we can still move around. You must be a brave woman!
