Today was quite the exercise day for me and the DW and an exercise in humility. The day started as we planed to do a ten mile hike this morning and when we go up it was foggy and looked overcast and the plan called for hiking the Appalachian trail. We gave it a few hours for the fog to burn off and it turned out to be beautiful blue skies, so up to the trail we went and by the time we got there the clouds rolled over the mountains and the temp. dropped quick. Now we found ourselves sitting in the truck trying to decide whether to proceed on the hike or just give it up for the day. Census says "call it a day and we'll try it again another day" the truck started to pull out of it's parking spot, then this little voice said stop, where are you going and DW asked "what are you thinking?". In my head all these thought were swirling like a tornado "Why are you giving up", "You run in the heat and don't give up, why now?" "Everything you have been training your mind to overcome, these bouts of I'll do it tomorrow, here we go again?", "Your suppose to be a motivator not a quitter!" and a dozen others. So I told the DW my thoughts and her reply "I was thinking the same thing" so back into the parking spot we went. Well we didn't quite make the ten miles but we did five miles, up and down several mountain slopes. The rest of the day was dedicated to getting the rest of the miles hiking near the house. At 9:30 this evening the DW said she was 1000 steps short of 20,000 steps and 13 floors short of 150 floors climbed, so out the door and up the local mountain we went to reach her goals. Total tally for the day 26,526 steps (12.51 miles), 348 fitness minuets, 2 hrs. 19 min. very active min. and 150 floors climbed. It does pay off to listen to that little voice in your head, just knowing which one to listen to is the trick.
