With the coastal storm dumping copious amounts of much needed rain on the Delmarva Peninsula, today's run was inside and on the treadmill at the Y. I've really made an effort to do as much running outside as I can, both to enjoy the weather before it gets icy / snowy / cold, and as a way to help the Achilles tendon better heal.
One of the nice things about the treadmill is adjusting the speed, so I took full advantage by starting at 6.0 mph, 6.2 after 1 mile, 6.5 after 2 and 6.7 after 3, while taking my walk intervals at 4.0 mph.
Today I upped the run interval to 2.5 minutes (from 2) but kept the walk interval at 1 minute. Did a total of 4 miles, with a 2 minute warm-up and a 3.33 minute cool down sandwiched around 38 minutes of running (using the 2.5 / 1 run / walk ratio). I did keep an eye out for the 5K mark, and that came 33 minutes into my running phase. Not where I want to be, but not too shabby considering the layoff I had to go through with my Achilles tendon.
Feeling NO soreness in the tendon as I type -- GREAT sign! Tomorrow will be a quiet day down at the beach socializing with fellow greyhound lovers (It is Greyhounds Reach the Beach week here in Delaware!), then plan to run again on Saturday.
Thanks to everyone with your supportive comments and good suggestions. I've read them all!
