Chemo #6--Half way though Taxol treatments!

Thursday, October 10, 2013

I got my sixth weekly infusion of taxol chemo yesterday. It marks the half way point for that chemo. I will have my last taxol the day before Thanksgiving. Needless to say, this Thanksgiving will be a very specail one for us.

I am still going great with this chemo. Amazingly, I still have enough hair to pass as normal. It's gotten very fine, but hey, a lot of people have very fine hair.

For the third week in a row, my blood tests immediately prior to chemo have all come back normal. I'm amazed by that. Usually, red and white blood cell counts go down more and more each week. Mine have actually gone up! I think the juicing I'm doing and all the other healthy, clean eating is making a huge difference there.

In terms of side effects of the chemo, they have all been very mild and easily managable. I couldn't be happier.

In December and January, I will be getting a different chemo that is known for much stronger side effects, but even with that chemo, some people don't have much trouble with it. People react differently, so it's hard to predict. I figure I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

On a different subject, I've been reading and practicing a lot of "mindfulness" meditation lately. It has been a huge help to me in terms of stress reduction and focusing on the present. Cancer is a great motivator for practicing mindfulness or living in the moment. I'm really liking what being able to reign my thoughts into the present is doing for me. It's a wonderful way to be.

It's all good!

Happy Sparking!

Kay

Kay, keep up the great work and attitude. I'm sure the fact that you were in fantastic shape going into this has helped your body combat the chemo side effects. Go Kay!!!!

Hey sister, glad to see that you are doing ok.
And happy that you haven't been having many side affects.
Still thinking about you daily and keeping you in my thoughts.
(And in my prayers, I am a friend and a Christian).
It is what I do. We are all meant to be here for each other.
Have a good day and a great weekend!

Kay...big big hugs to you for being such a trooper! I just know you are going to come through this fine. I'm wondering...if your blood measurements look good week after week what the necessity of another round of chemo justifies? Just playing your loving devils advocate here. I'm praying you question EVERY thing...

I just read that broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and cabbage all produce a chemical that can stop the growth of cancer cells and boost immunity...maybe throw a few of those in the blender?

Big hugs to you...I'm cheering you on..you know I ALWAYS will be in your corner!!! emoticon

I am so so so happy and am sure a lot has to do with the diet, positive and the great mindset has to help too. Awesome.... where did you get the juice and smoothie recipes anywhere special? Kris Carr?

Wonderful news! And a testament to what healthy eating can produce in the way of normal cell results. We are what we eat, for sure. Big hug, Kay.
