I chewed through most of the fingernails during game 1 of the ALCS, as Max Scherzer nursed an early three run lead for 7 innings, and then turned a single run lead over to the Detroit Tigers' bullpen to save. The cuticles were the victims today, as Scherzer came out of the bullpen in a backs against the wall, must win situation, and first proceeded to give Oakland a lead, and then loaded the bases with none out, before escaping, Houdini style, without further damage in his two innings of work. I can't imagine how that must have felt like in the stands, as the game I went to on Monday had one inning of excitement surrounded by 8 innings of stultifying offensive ineptitude.
But I picked Monday, and instead hit the gym for a couple hours of cardio and pickleball today, before settling in with my TV and my favorite baseball team. The Tigers did win, setting up a winner take all game 5 in Oakland on Thursday. I'm not sure what I'll be chewing on then. Might have to invest in a Costco size cannister of beef jerky, so as not to cannibalize myself too badly.
Spoke with my manager today (or Program Director as he's titled in our company's parlance) and heard updates (none) on the couple of opportunities my name is being proposed for at the moment. It's one of those situations where they've identified a few things I could be proposed for, and resumes have been submitted, and then it's a hurry up and wait game for those customers to decide who they'll ask to interview with them. And in the meantime, I get a bit of vacation, and get to watch baseball. The weird thing is that I've declared that I'll be attending a wedding in Virginia on Friday, November 1st, and I have no idea whether I should grab a ticket, and hope that ticket insurance might cover any changes to my itinerary that I might need to make due to any job updates, or if I should hold out a few days more. I'm within a couple of days of the three weeks out point, where prices may or may not jump; they're more reasonable today than they were the last time I checked, so I almost feel like i oughta grab one now, and figure out hotel stuff and rental car stuff as well.
Although, now that I think about it, since I've flown on a weekly basis for the past 6-7 months, I wonder if I could get a award flight down to Virginia? Let's find out, shall we?
(just thought of those old timey serials, where they left off each installment on a cliffhanger. Hate to be mean, and leave you without an answer, but I'm quite amused by the notion. Tune in tomorrow for the thrilling conclusion of "Can I get free stuff???")
