Today's A New Day

Tuesday, October 08, 2013

Last night I went home after work determined to keep up with the day's good progress. I washed my face, put on my workout clothes and headed to the treadmill. I had a plan, walk on the treadmill and watch the baseball game. I figured watching the game would make my time on the treadmill just fly by. Little did I know that the TV in the back room wasn't hooked up and that a cable was missing so I was unable to hook it up. No bother...I'll just listen to my iPod while working a room with no lights.

I found myself a little frustrated and all I could think about were the Little Debbie snack cakes in the kitchen cabinet. I must confess that my workout did not happen. However, I was able to resist the Little Debbie temptation for a bit. I actually ate a chicken salad sandwich with some chips before diving into the snack cakes. Although I would have preferred not to give in, it was a positive that I ate actual food first then the snack cakes. And I tracked all of it. I went over my calories for the day, but that's OK. At least I ate the sandwich before anything else. And I tracked it all. That is the biggest thing for me...tracking. So often I think that if I don't track it then I didn't really eat it.

This morning however, I woke up, took my shower, and had my protein shake for breakfast. Got to work, drank some herbal tea rather than giving up and heading down to Starbucks for a Pumpkin Spice Latte. About mid morning I got hungry. Not unusual given that I only had about 200 calories for breakfast. Another victory, I actually ate my protein bar that I brought for my snack.

So often in the past, I would have given up after the first day getting off track. Today, my cable will be delivered and I plan to walk on my treadmill. Although it may not seem like much to some, I'm counting this as a victory for me. Big or small, I need all the victories I can get.
