a new(ish) goal

Proper formatting and active links at my original post:

A little reprise for those who haven't read me before:

So I'm kind of petering out on my incremental step goal. After reaching 25,000+ steps several days in a row on a NYC trip, I started trying to periodically step it up to a 35000 step day, then 30000, then 40000, and finally my latest...a 45,000 step day. I reached my threshold somewhere between 40,000 and 45,000 this past weekend. The 30000 started out as a challenge from MOSTMOM1. I accidentally got 35,000 cuz I can't do math apparently. SO my lovely trainer, SheilaV, challenged me to get the 30,000 within 2 weeks to keep the momentum. And THAT my friends, is where the madness started. Obsessive much?

So now? My mind's been reeling with ideas of how to keep it up and eventually cross my current threshold. I think I should challenge myself to have a big step day between 30,000 and 45,000 every 4 to 6 weeks.

...end reprise.

I think that should be doable as well as challenging.

But then?

Meanwhile on FB, I invited a friend, we'll call her Jen (haha that's a good online name for Jennifer, right?), to a local color 5k later in October. She lives a bit away and she found that weekend to be a little full already for some local fun and 5Ks near her. Then she suggested a 45,000 step day TOGETHER! We haven't seen each other in years and this would be a great way to catch up. I'm in! She would like to go where we can kind of meet halfway.

A few months ago, I started scheming and daydreaming about some treks, or pilgrimages if you will, I could do. I threw out some ideas and wrote them in a post for my someday bucket list. One of them included The Silver Comet Trail. I think this would be a great training ground for my future endeavors. I would like to section hike it! How cool would that be? If I did it in 18-20 mile shots, it could be done in 3 to 4 visits. Plus if I have a partner in these shenanigans, we can park our cars 18-20 miles apart and not have to double-back, making the entire goal that much easier to attain.

Genius, right?

Ah well shucks, thank you. BaH! Well, it may not be genius but it sure as heck would be fun.

More about the Silver Comet Trail:

Coming soon...more daydreaming (and action items) of ways to achieve my someday bucket list of a long pilgrimage. One that will go out of my comfort zone, beyond the 'day hike.'

ETA: It's officially scheduled for November. Yippee!

Wow! that sound terrific! The two people-two cars thing is the best. I really hate having a great hike and then having to go back over the same ground to get to the car. Takes a lot of the fun away. You go Girl!!! emoticon emoticon

Everywhere I go, the first thing I have to find out is where the walking trails are. I am happy with day hikes, but I love your enthusiasm for the long pilgrimage. It'll happen!
Happy trails!!!
