Starting this school year, my Peanut is in universal preschool. I'm trying to keep an open mind, but I'm having some issues with his teacher...
First: Meet the Teacher Night, she hardly talked to my son. To me she said, "Oh, you work?" Really? From there, she only wanted to schedule the mandatory home visit from 8am to 3pm and was again surprised by my hours of 7am to 3pm. She finally, and very reluctantly, scheduled the home visit for 4pm.
Second: She was late for the home visit then rushed through it. She only had me sign the required paperwork then left the rest for me to fill out on my own. Okay, I'm literate, and I can do this on my own. What about those parents who aren't? (I know from personal experience there are more than a few out there.)
Third: Logan was sick a few weeks ago and missed a day of school. Per the paper I signed, I have to call before 12:30 or it will count as an unexcused absence. (After four unexcused absences, he can be taken out of school and placed on a waiting list.) I tried several times to call and let them know he wouldn't be there. No one answered the phone, and the phone does not have voice mail. I finally e-mailed the teacher to let her know.
Today: Again, Logan was sick and going to miss school. I tried several times this morning around 9am with no answer. I called from my personal phone and from my district phone (different ring tones), and all with the same answer: no answer. I tried calling again about the time afternoon preschool started, and again got no answer. I tried one more time about five minutes later and finally got through. Overall, I called about five or six times. Would a typical parent call that many times?
When I mentioned the difficulty I had getting through, I was met with the excuse of being out of the room for lunch. Okay, reasonable, but what about in the morning? Then I get the excuse that the phones aren't working properly.
Because I work for the same district and my program is in a preschool building (not the same as my son's), I have the name of the building administrator and am very tempted to have a conversation with her about this teacher, both with regards to personality, but more importantly the difficulty I have in reaching her via phone.
Am I overreacting? I keep trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, but it seems like the issues are piling up. How long do I ignore and keep trying to work around them?
