The Paleo Challenge seems to be going more smoothly than at first, from a digestive issue point of view. I'm not sure how effective it is for weight loss, though, at least for me, because I have only lost 2 pounds and have not really been trying that hard to stick to the allotted calorie range. Since I was already gluten free, phasing out grains was not a big challenge. Also, we ate very little dairy - I thought I would miss my morning yogurt, but I don't, really - so phasing that out, with the exception of the gelato, wasn't that difficult either. But I still tend to overdo it on sugary fruits and alcohol on the weekends, and that has to stop if I want to make any more forward progress, I think.
All in all, I would say the shift has been relatively easy, with the exception of getting rid of sugar. I have an amazing sweet tooth - I lived on peanut butter and jelly for two years - no exaggeration - so not having something sweet and sugary has been difficult. I know I am eating more fruit than the paleo diet recommends, so I'm trying to cut that back a bit, especially the dried fruit (raisins) I've been sneaking in on a daily basis to satisfy my sweet tooth. Plus the alcohol - no matter how you slice it, tequila just really shouldn't be a part of anyone's regular diet. At least red wine has some health benefits. I know I am simply substituting one bad choice (sweets) for another (alcohol), and using the whole, "but I've been so good all week" mentality as an excuse to overindulge. I need to be better about not letting that mentality (literally) weigh me down.
I should get back to work, as I am trying to actually be productive today - plus it's really nice outside today, so it would be good to get for a run with the dogs, especially after that horrible, horrible WOD today - 12 minute AMRAP, 12 long jump burpees, 12 jumping lunges, 12 should slaps - I did 88 broad jump burpees and 84 jumping lunges! My legs would welcome a good run to stretch out.
