BLC23 - Week 2 - My far

Monday, October 07, 2013

My journey so far has been sort of like a rollercoaster.
I have joined Weighless, so many time......and yes I did loose weight......but as usual, life gets in the way.
This is the third time I have joined Sparkpeople, and I must admit it is the best thing that I have done in a long time.
I was active until Grade10, and that's when I started picking up weight. I remember weighing over 75kg in Matric.....and now I wish that is what I weighted.....but for a them 17 year old, that was A LOT.
My weight slowly picked up through the years, and then I met, who I though was the man of my dreams. He accepted me for who I was, but I refused to see all the tell tale signs. We got engaged, and I then joined the gym, wanting to loose my excess weight and look good for my wedding.
That never happened, and even though I continued to go to gym, food and drink was my source of comfort.
Forward to 2012. I now put myself fully in Sparkpeople.....and even though I haven't lost what I want to loose, I know I am with a group of people, who know exactly what it feels like to be overweight.
What an amazing support group. This is now my forth round of BLC, and I am learning news thing everyday.
Thank you Spark, for putting the Spark back into me wanting to loose weight.

Hi Bonny. I think it's a matter of finding what works for you, then sticking to it. We're all different, and our lifestyles are different too. There's no shame in an off/on situation, I loose for a while, then maintain for a while, then loose again, but the overall picture is downwards.

You will reach your goals! You *can* do this.

One of the things I love about sparks people is that it helps me at least integrate a healthier lifestyle into the rest of my life--so many diet programs focus on specific dietary or exercise rules, and if these rules clash with the rest of your responsibilities, etc., they end up falling by the wayside. With sparks, I've tried so many things over the years, keeping those that worked (like more protein, more frequent but smaller meals, etc.) discarding those that don't (too many too count, really, but this includes exercise programs that aggravated my hip, not enough rest days, foods that I don't like or meals that just didn't work for me because they were too complicated or whatever). That's why we so often say on sparks that just because something works for person A, that doesn't mean that it will work for person B! But that time isn't waited because its a *process* that leads to an over all sustainable, healthy lifestyle. And in the time I've known you, I can see that process. So I know that you can do this!

Bonny - I totally understand the start - stop - start weight loss plan. I'd been doing it for years. So glad you came back and I got to know you. Remember this is all part of the same journey, detours, falling down and getting up and all that has happened makes us who we are.
