What a day. I woke up feeling more positive. I got in 2 treadmill miles and some ab work. Showered then the vet called. I was so thrilled to hear that I could pick him up. We are in no way out of the woods but he is home.
They did not recheck the liver levels because they did not think there would be much of a change. I need to take him back in for tests on Thursday. His liver levels are still through the roof. The ok high is 300 and his levels were over 1000. There could be several reasons for this. First, then phenobarbital, second the elbow infection or I am not sure what.
He is on eight different meds I need to administer 6 different times a day. Speaking of that. Now is time. Gotta run. On special food too, for his liver.
Continued positive thoughts are appreciated.
I should mention, he is still on the phenobarbital. This is great in the sense that it is really what has made his seizures controllable. The very bad side is that the phenobarbital is potentially really bad for his liver.
As I said, I will take him back Thursday for tests. If his liver levels are still through the roof we may be forced to lower the phenobarbital. I did talk to the Doc about potential liver failure. She said it was possible but she did not think that would happen.
It took 20 minutes to get him to eat this evening. First, I had to wake him. That was a challenge, which is scary. Hate to have him so out of it. I took him out which helped. Convinced him to eat some 'cookies' then he finally started eating his food. More meds at 8pm and then midnight then 4am then 6am I think. Craziness.
I will be happy if he just does not throw up or have seizures. I need to remember that when I get tired.
I sent work an e-mail providing an update. I hope they continue to be understanding. There is an off site meeting Tuesday. I hoped to make it in but do not see how.
on a positive note, we no longer have a heater or fans in the kitchen. Therefore less noise. I was able to organize things a bit better as well. Still not appliances or anything but I moved an old microwave downstairs and the toaster oven. Microwave was heavy.
DH is stressed about work. It tends to consume him.
Once again, out support is appreciated. I need to stay positive and stay motivated. It may be a very challenging week taking care of Utah and waking during the night to do so. I think I need to sleep downstairs with him too. I don't want to risk a seizure or him licking on his elbow. Maybe a sleeping bag could help.
On that note, sure hope Utah's new bed arrives before Wednesday's scheduled arrival. Hope he loves it.
Have a good week.
