Sweet foods are as addictive as cocaine

Sunday, October 06, 2013

For serious!

I totally lost my battle to avoid ice cream yesterday. I got all stressed out after having a bad time at a big party and found myself on autopilot, walking to the grocery store to buy a pint of Ben and Jerry's. It really was like a drug addict needing a fix! (Or a person experiencing the prodrome of an oncoming migraine. Equally unpleasant, 'specially when the headache kicked in at 6:30am)

So awful. But apparently scientifically validated as a real thing! I am not at all surprised to hear that sugar (particularly when paired with fat) does the same thing to your brain as cocaine or nicotine addiction. This sugar thang really got its claws in me again and I need to fight it back off. One day at a time, right? One day at a time.

Oh my goodness! When I gave up sugar due to some health reasons (yeast) I had been Primal for 40 days. It was 14 days of misery I tell you to give up the sugar, which at that time was fruit only....I totally understand. It can be done though.Just know 2 weeks, then its not so bad. emoticon
