long run = nerves about next weekend's half

Sunday, October 06, 2013

I did exactly what I said I was NOT going to do. I got into biking and swimming and skipped a few long runs to go on group rides. I said I was just going to fiddle around on the bike until after my two half marathons this fall. Well I didn't.

Now I'm having a staring contest with a half next weekend and the longest run I've done is 8 miles. I'm toast.

I headed out this morning and ran 6.75 miles in 1:22.

I majored in math so I can do this one in my head. The race has a 3 hour time limit so in theory I should have a 20 minute cushion. It doesn't sound like a lot but it's a little over a min a mile.

This is assuming I can stubborn my way through the second part of the race and not slow down. Also it should be a lot cooler next weekend.

so basically I'm just looking to cross that finish line and get my finisher's medal
let's not talk about the time huh

oh look over there - a shinny ball thing

First - Good luck on your upcoming run.

Next - the fact that you are taking this on...to me is WOW. You can run about 13.1 miles farther than I can!

And ... again ... good luck on your run next week!

This is why I don't do math. (Just kidding. I wish I was better at math. But like a lot of lawyers, I went into law because math & sciences were too hard.)

I hope you have a good run. I'm doing my first 5K in a few weeks, so the thought of running 8 miles is beyond my comprehension.
