Brutal Honesty, "Borrowed" From a Fellow Sparky

Saturday, October 05, 2013

I read your blogs, as much as time allows. I comment on them less, but still as much as time allows. Blogs provide some insights into ourselves as people. I never thought the social side of Sparkpeople was worth anything, but shortly after joining here I found that many of us experience similar challenges, thoughts, successes, aspirations, etc. Of course, blogs are not uncommonly sources of entertainment too.

Well, I found one of yours both entertaining and thought-provoking. With permission from "CAREN-BLUEJEANS" who first posted it, below you are invited to list five positive, physical attributes or characteristics about your own appearance. Not what you want it to be, but right now. Go look in the mirror, come back here, and lay five of them on us. Now.

Go! (After I see say 20 or so, I'll lay out my five).

    1. Fabulous hair, darlings, thick and dark, with becoming grey highlights.
2. Absolutely beautiful hazel eyes, people still get caught looking into them despite my advanced age. And they can still see, with a bit of help from my glasses.
3. Sensational and wonky smile showing a gap between my two front teeth. It drawspeople and makes them trust me.
4 Strong teeth which have saved me many many $$ at the dentist.
5 a stomach that gallantly digests everything I put into it with nary a complaint and diligently finds somewhere inventive to put it after the usual places are totally filled out.
6 lungs that keep on breathing and keeping the body going despite years of smoking, thankfully long behind me now.

Ehhhh I saw this on SparkCoach and sort of mentally did this.

* my dark brown eyes

* my "almond shaped" eyes (after a college friend complimented me with that label. (Never mind that I do NOT have naturally thick long eyelashes - arrrgh ).

* my hair - I always liked the auburn golden highlights in my youth... But, as I am getting older and went through menopause...

* my hair texture and tenth and silvery white hairs look like highlighting even though my cosmetologist girlfriend has quit nagging me to let her color my hair.

* my ears - they are deaf but they look cute with earrings ...

* my relatively clear facial complexion...

Of course they do, of course they do. Everyone's wondering if that's really your natural hair colour. And texture/profusion. (Or a rug . . . )

I was not cheating, there was absolutely no prohibition against checking out the "originating" blog. I was just doing a little research. Really.

Seems like no one who has not cheated (WATERMELLEN) wants to see mine...

    Okay, here goes
1. My shapely calves
2. My feet
3. My hair (still mostly brown with some sprinklings of white)
4. My blue eyes (I was the only blue-eyed grandchild on both sides)
5. My nose when viewed in profile

Okay, Boss, you are getting close to needing to post your own.

This was a SparkCoach assignment. I skipped it then because I couldn't think of 5. I have been trying to come up with 5 since reading your blog. Some of mine are pretty lame, I think.

1. my eyes (my DH says they are what attracted him to me in the first place)
2. my smile (I look younger when I smile)
3. my shoulders (good for leaning on)
4. my hands (when my nails are done)
5. my "posterior" (at least that's what I have been told by men who appreciate large ones)

Thanks, Boss for giving me street cred for my blog! And thank you Watermellen, for looking me up too. And Fran, you can click through My SparkPage to view"Write down five (yes, five) physical traits you like about your body."

I think it's really hard for a lot of us to like our bodies. I mentally went over my body from toe to head, and was surprised I found fault with every part. I have to give my body a little love & appreciation.

Checked out CAREN BLUE JEANS post too -- interesting idea. But . . . what's "brutal" about listing the good stuff?? My good stuff is good enuff, I get that. The difficulty for me is keeping it that way!

Put on my gym clothes and stood in front of the mirror to assess current state. Determined that I am:

1. Slim or at least slimmish (brutal effort required to sustain that though. My natural body weight will always be 230 I think)

2. Pretty well muscled and toned arms and legs etc. especially at my advanced age (brutal effort ditto)

3. Relatively wrinkle free at my advanced age all things given . . . good diet helps there (brutal effort ditto)

4. Tall (OK no effort required and not likely to get a whole lot shorter actually . . . and this helps to sustain the "slimmish" impression but no effort required so no credit to me either)

5. Nice hair (still natural colour dark blonde no grey) and eyes (blue) and smile (dimples) and ending with a flurry of vanity actually . . . but these are all no effort required items so no particular credit for these either).

(And as for the "you go first", I've already checked out YOUR list on her blog . . . . congrats to you! Glad to see that you too glory in natural hair colour/thickness at your relatively advanced age also . . . ).

Okay, this is scary going first so I hope I do it right.
1)I recently got a funky hair cut. Far cooler than anything I would every imagine I should have! I have never had so many compliments about my hair!
2) I have a waist. I like it.
3) The outside of my thighs. May sound strange, but they have really starter to tone up from running, (I'm sure the inside will join them at some point!)
4)My back. Useful for low back tops and dresses.
5) My ears.
Sorry if that's a bit long!
