My journey to weight loss has been a slow, long trip. I've had many starts and restarts.
I joined Sparkpeople.com back in 2006 in order to get healthy as DH and I were newly married and wanted to start a family. I gained a bunch of weight when I was still in the Navy (too much partying, eating fattening foods, and not exercising). I think my highest weight was in the low 160s, although I don't know for sure as I avoided the scale. One would think being in the military, I'd be fit, but I was not. Daily PT was not enforced and the bi-yearly physical readiness tests were "fluffed", to say the least. I met my DH, then boyfriend, in 2000. And, as people dating do, we ate out at restaurants quite often. However, I did lose a few pounds because I was not partying any more.
I was discharged from the Navy in 2004 and married in 2005. We were trying for about a year to concieve with no success. I felt as though it was my unhealthy lifestyle that was hampering our dreams of a baby, so one night I decided to do a search on "counting calories" when Sparkpeople came up. I joined and was excited to start my new journey to weightloss.
I was using SP daily to track my calorie intake and exercise minutes. I was feeling good and eating right. I lost a couple of pounds, but not a whole lot. Then, about 4 months later, our prayers were answered - I was pregnant! I was finally going to be a mother.
My pregnancy went along smoothly and I lost all the weight I gained during pregnancy within a few weeks after delivery of DD. However, I slid back into my old eating habits. Why? After all that hard work? Probably because its difficult to eat mindfully and to make time out of my day to work up a sweat. (Yes, I know excuses, excuses). With a new baby and new job as a Nurse, I was tired and didn't have time to workout like I used to. It was just easier to eat whatever I wanted and sit around.
I didn't log back onto Sparkpeople until 2012, which I'll tell the story of in another blog entry, "My Journey to Weight Loss" Part 2.
