I want your opinion. what should I do?

Friday, October 04, 2013

I've talked before about my scrapbook room, how it;s my organizational project to keep me from eating. While cleaning it ( i have two corners and one wall left) I found previous motivational scrapbooks. I started one in 2001, and keep it up until my hip replacement trauma. I started another one in 2008. and I started one in 2013. My question is what do you think I should do with them? The first two are good quality scrapbooks, but little. one is a 4x6 brag book, and the other is a 5X7. The third isn't the best quality, and I have run out of pages. One thought is leave them for the memories and motivation. A second thought is to combine them into a nice 12X12 quality scrapbook, that I can grow. What do people think? I tend to not want to redo historical scrapbooks, even though my style has changed. Looking back, it's all part of the memories. If I put them all together, one could see the flow of my life, and how I'm in the same place i was twice before. Weight wise, that is. Outlook, game plan, house, job, kids... all that has changed since 2001.

I would (and did for myself) incorporate them into one big scrapbook. I would clip the best pages out and attach them to new pages.

But, not knowing what they are like..I think you have to do what you are comfortable doing. If you want separate books, then keep them. And try not to lose any details of your past work, if you incorporate.
But YOU are the only one to decide.

I just wanted everything together, so I used a really thick 3" binder...I have recovered the cover with fabric, and all the pages are individual. Starts with pages made from pictures my Mom had, of her young, then dating and marrying our Dad..then my baby pictures...and some of each of my 6 siblings...then all those years of my school pictures..then teen events, graduations, shore houses, friends, Holidays, Showers, wedding, kids, and personal trials, weight issues, Friends loses, four medical crisis, feelings, issues, all throughout it.
I have just started my husbands parents, his baby and school, Military years ..up to our Wedding coming in the same big binder..only starting from the back side.
This is a constant work in progress.

    My vote . . . scan them.

If it was me I would keep the ones I really liked just as they are -- but it would probably bug me that the little ones weren't the same size and if there was one I already didn't like I'd be tempted to combine those ones into a 12x12 album just for symmetry. (little ones always fall over or get shoved behind other books on the shelf). Then I'd start a new (big) one for this period of my life. Maybe even buy two so you have the next one already available when you need it perhaps?

But I do like the idea of scanning them, or taking pictures of them - I do that with things I like but have no need for or that have broken (ie, a favourite coffee mug that my mom gave me, it cracked, I took a picture of it before I threw it away, I run across the picture every so often and it brings a smile - that sort of thing)

Congratulations on your progress with your room! emoticon

I am a minimalist, so my answer would be to scan them in on a computer for the memories and then let them go. Perhaps a yearly scrapbook that is about your life (can include your weight loss) but it could be how you are living your life.

I think you should leave them the way they are as they show parts of your journey at different times in your life. Just my thought.

I vote to leave them as they are. Is there a way (I'm not a scraper) that you could leave them the way they are, yet incorporate them in a larger scrapbook for the flow? Be creative! That's part of the fun, right?

I would say leave them as they are. Like you said, they are part of your history. A reminder of your accomplishments of those times.

Okay you asked, I think you should incorporate all the scrapbooks into a flow of your life. But that is me and you should do what appeals to you the most. Any way you do it it is lots of work and you must be so talented. It makes me tired just thinking about all that work. Partly that is because I feel very overwhelmed right now myself.
