Variety is the spice of life

Friday, October 04, 2013

Hello to all the Sparkpeople,

In the last month, I have been plagued with different injuries, probably because of my over enthusiasm. My chosen activity of walking has presented blisters, sore feet, a shooting pain in my heal, making it very painful to walk on. This is how unfit I am folks!

But I have always been interested in trying different activities, and on this site there is such a variety. I have tried Pilates, different cardio exercises, Bollywood dancing, exercise using the exercise ball or really there is no excuse. Today my feet hurt, so I opted to go swimming. I keep forgetting how much I love to swim, and that every part of my body is having a workout.

I am embracing everything, I will admit, the portions still have to be measured and the drinking of water needs careful planning, and sometimes I do not manage the 2 litres, but as each day begins I start off with a clean slate, ready to be more mindful in all I do.

I feel so blessed to have found this site, and am amazed at how helpful, kind, encouraging, thoughtful this community is, thank you to each and everyone of YOU.

Now I need to plan all the activities for the weekend, one thing is for sure I will not get bored.

Thank you

Peace and Harmony

I just remembered that I am going to a party on Saturday so there will be plenty of dancing, any excuse to continue to move!

I totally understand about the foot pain. It sounds like you may have Plantar Fasciitis. There are stretching exercises for the feet you can do to help relieve this pain and they do work. I have had a long struggle with foot and heel pain related to this condition and it's really pretty common. Just do a search for PF exercises and I know you'll find some online. They're really easy and you do them while standing up so no crawling around on the floor. Do them 3 to 4 times a day and you'll get some relief. I also use soft foam heel cups in my shoes. Best of luck to you!

I hope your feet are feeling better now and that you have a lovely weekend and party on Saturday.
I forgot to say the other day - I have tried one of the Leslie Sansone DVDs and really enjoyed it. Did 3 miles first time. Not too stressful on the joints and if you are suffereing a little you can do low impact rather than turning things up a little. Recommend.
Love your attitude to trying different things. I'm sure this will help you succeed in your qoals.
Have a fab week.

When I first started walking my heels were really sore. The more I've walked, the better they have been. I have no idea what was wrong, or why they are better, but I hope yours soon improve too. So glad you are enjoying what you are doing, this is a great blog post. Thank you.

Variety is necessary to keep moving forward for life. It would be boring without it.

Yes that is so true, tomorrow back walking, but at least I have excised other parts of my body.

(Thinking of all my loved ones who have died of cancer)

I'm so thrilled that our town pool will be re-opening soon. It's great exercise and really works for me to walk laps in the pool when my old feet are sore or my knees are hurting. And the water resistance adds to the calories burned. The tip, as you have discovered, is to just keep moving!
